@dilanesper What I'm pushing back on is the claim that you haven't seen a decline. It's not credible to anyone who walks and/or drives around the various parts of the city. Not sure why that's hard to acknowledge.

@UprisingLa LA Live is still full of clubs and bars so I am not sure what your claim is there. Hollywood fluctuated long before the present moment. It was dead when I was a teenager.

LA still has wonderful music and nightlife. The difference is in the old days we also had a lot more smog.
Joseph Kahn@JosephKahn

The problem with LA is the "Everything's Fine" people. These are people that came to LA after its heyday and during its decline after the financial crash of 2008. The more recent the transplant, the less they are aware of what Los Angeles used to be. They have no idea all the areas that used to be lively, or that there was a world class music and night life scene. If you mention there weren't homeless people shitting on the streets everywhere, they call you a MAGA fascist because unhoused people have rights too and Everything's Fine. If you mention entire neighborhoods like the Pacific Palisades did not burn down, they say you should not be blaming the mayor for the weather (which is controlled by global warming Republicans) and Everything's Fine. You can say it's really not normal for so many shops to be closed all over Los Angeles with empty storefronts, and they'll say something about equity and that Everything's Fine. The street vendors on sidewalks in front of KoreaTown restaurants that are shutting down? That's totally fine because that's LA culture (no it fucking isn't newbie). Crime? Everything's Fine. These theater kid transplants from Michigan say why are you complaining, move somewhere else. They don't know what they don't know. Then they drink a $20 Erewhon smoothie thinking that's the height of LA culture. Everything's Fine.

There will always be people out (it's a big city!) but 3rd St. Promenade and a huge amount of the clubs/bars I used to go to are gone (and not replaced). Downtown has noticeably degraded from even 10 years ago, and even many of the Hollywood clubs used for wrap parties are gone. I have a hard time believing you haven't seen the decline.

@UprisingLa Not really. I'm older so I don't go as often as I once did, but when I go down to the Sunset Strip the clubs are always full of people and there are great bands playing.

This is obviously demagoguery, but to be clear, packing the Court to 13 Justices would destroy the independent judiciary and make the courts the political tool of whoever won the last electoral trifecta, while sending the rest of US law into chaos.
Rep. Ro Khanna@RepRoKhanna

The Supreme Court has engaged in an ugly recidivism that has marked the fastest rollback of Black political rights since Reconstruction. 18 year terms limits on Justices now. Expand the court from 9 to 13 Justices now.

Listen, I know I've been talking about it over the last 12 hours, but the fact of the matter is that this "ruling" still hasn't been resolved. So action is required. Email I wrote to @nbastats regarding the Julius Randle assist on Gobert's dunk. Wish me luck!

There is no paradox. The Democrat party has had 20+ years of uncontested power in California. They have had the chance to do everything they want. They have failed. They either need to acknowledge their failures and fix them or California needs sweeping change.
Josh Kraushaar@JoshKraushaar

“California is the ultimate paradox of Democratic rule. A state of immense wealth, innovation and cultural power is increasingly unable to deliver the basics of housing, public safety and disaster response.” axios.com/2026/05/08/cal…

Ok… most of you know I was in the organic baby formula business, but what you don’t know is I dabbled in diapers as well. I also know this baby2baby “non profit” and have had past interactions with them.. I’ll leave that out for now.. Let’s dive into this absolute grifting nonsense. Prepare to be shocked. California is about to spend $20 million of taxpayer money to give 100,000 newborns 400 diapers each through Baby2Baby. Do the math with me: 100,000 babies × 400 diapers = 40 million diapers $20,000,000 ÷ 40,000,000 = $0.50 per diaper!!!!! Now walk into any Costco in California and you can buy the same quality diapers for .12 to .15 cents each! That’s $48 to $60 for 400 diapers. So the state is paying 8–10x more per diaper than a regular family buying in bulk. They could’ve just handed every low-income new mom $100 cash and told her to go to Costco. She’d get more diapers, better ones if she wanted, and still have money left for formula, wipes, or whatever the hell she actually needs. But nah… that wouldn’t let Gavin and his connected “nonprofit” girls running the show there cut ribbons, take photos, do galas and be friends with celebrities and brag about the “first-in-the-nation” program while skimming their cut for “administration” and “partnerships.” This is peak government stupidity!!! Spend way more money to feel good and look good, instead of just trusting parents with their own damn money. We’re not helping babies. We’re funding another bloated nonprofit-government grift. Math doesn’t lie. The diaper math is brutal. What a scam and a joke!!!!!

@moseskagan I agree - projects like this, when done right, get people excited about the city and our future. But the lines need to stay safe and clean or it’ll all be wasted. I used to ride the SM line downtown fairly often until it became an undesirable option.

Have been pretty negative about LA recently, but this is a big deal and all of the people who worked hard to make it happen ought to be proud. Thank you!

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt kicked off the city's mayoral debate in a heated exchange on Wednesday after Pratt called Bass "an incredible liar," and claimed she misguided Angelenos about the facts of the Palisades Fire when it broke out last year. CBS News' @JonVigliotti, who has been closely reporting on and investigating the blaze for over a year, fact checked two key moments from the debate.
