It's Fossil Friday! Meet Edmontonia rugosidens. This tank-like ankylosaur lived during the late Cretaceous ~75 mya. Snapped circa 1922, this image depicts a Museum preparator readying the specimen for display. Today it can be seen in the Museum’s Hall of Ornithischian Dinosaurs.

In 1999, skydiver Joan Murray’s parachutes malfunctioned, leaving her to free-fall 14,500 feet above North Carolina, landing directly on a fire ants' mound. Miraculously, she survived. Doctors believe that being stung over 200 times by ants triggered a surge of adrenaline, keeping her heart beating. Joan Murray survived a catastrophic skydiving accident in 1999 in North Carolina after both her main and reserve parachutes failed to deploy properly during a jump from roughly 14,500 feet. She impacted the ground at high speed and sustained multiple life-threatening injuries, including fractures and internal trauma. Rescue teams transported her to a hospital where she required extensive surgery and intensive care. Murray landed on a mound of imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta), which aggressively swarm when disturbed. Medical teams documented over 200 stings. Physicians later suggested the envenomation may have contributed to maintaining cardiac activity long enough for emergency response, though the exact physiological role remains debated. She underwent a prolonged recovery and later returned to skydiving, completing additional jumps after rehabilitation. Failure of both a main and reserve parachute is extremely rare. Modern skydiving systems are designed with redundant deployment mechanisms, and the probability of dual failure is estimated at far less than 1 in 100,000 jumps. © Reddit #drthehistories
