National Invasive Species Week — and invasive plants aren’t just a habitat issue, it's a wildfire issue. Cheatgrass dries out early, creates continuous fine fuels, and help fires ignite & spread faster. After fire, they often come back stronger — increasing future fire risk.

Utah has deployed 4 Wildfire Task Forces to Texas @ the request of @StateForesters. Personnel from @utahffsl & local cooperators are supporting operations in Jourdanton, San Angelo, Lubbock, & Mineral Wells. Low RH, high temps & receptive fuels are driving extreme fire behavior.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Wasatch Front Fire Management Officer Brett Waters, who served Utah for 4 years. We offer our condolences to Brett’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters and request privacy during this time of grief.

Juniper Mistletoe is a parasitic plant that is commonly found throughout pinyon-juniper woodlands. It attaches to the tree’s branches and draws water and nutrients from its host. Pruning infected branches/removing heavily infested trees help reduce the spread of mistletoe.
