Family, friends and fellow leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints met to remember Elder W. Mark Bassett at his funeral on Tuesday, May 19, at his stake center in North Salt Lake, Utah. Elder Bassett died at age 59 on Monday, May 11, after suffering a traumatic brain injury. He had been serving as a General Authority Seventy and executive director of the Missionary Department. President @ChristoffDTodd, second counselor in the First Presidency, presided at the funeral. The service was conducted by Bishop Bryan E. Stevenson of the Hidden Lake Ward of the North Salt Lake Utah Stake. The chapel, cultural hall, hallways and rooms of the meetinghouse were filled with those who loved Elder Bassett and wanted to celebrate his life. Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has directed officials to summon the Israeli ambassador to demand assurances regarding the safety and security of Canadians involved. Canada has already imposed strict sanctions on Mr. Ben-Gvir, including asset freezes and a travel ban, in response to his repeated incitement of violence. The protection of civilians and respect for human dignity must be upheld everywhere, at all times.
