Here is my submission for the UTEP jersey contest.
I’ve always liked the idea of UTEP putting El Paso on their jersey, and I also wanted to include something that pays homage to the roots of the community.

60 years ago today, the Miners made history by starting five African-Americans in their 72-65 win over Kentucky in the national championship game. The night before the game, a group of Maryland students were making a ruckus outside of the Miners hotel. So, Don Haskins went out and invited those students to have a beer with him, so his team could sleep. The night of Haskins becoming a national championship he “sat up with them (the students) drinking beers and making small talk until the early hours.” @600espnelpaso

Miami (OH) is making a serious investment into their athletic programs, and it’s paying off. They’re in the midst of an historic undefeated basketball season, and project to have an 8 million dollar roster come football season. I don’t know specifics, but I do know that UTEP has no where near that in NIL, across both men’s basketball and football.
