Had my X account hacked and unfortunately lost years of connections and hard marketing work. Was hoping the X community could do its thing and repost to help me grow this account as I continue to publish podcasts and articles. I hope to keep giving a voice to good people.

I had the pleasure of interviewing @Tateunruh on my pod as we were both getting started in our ventures. He’s the real deal. You know how much this guy cares? I asked for a simple endorsement and my man sent me so much that I had to cut some out for the graphic! Above and beyond. The dude was a stud college basketball player and thrived overseas as an elite shooter in a high level league. Do yourself a favor and google how many 3s and the percentage he shot at the D1 level. I look forward to following Tate’s future in leadership development. If you want to see why Tate wrote what we wrote, check out the book! a.co/d/05p7FEcC

It feels surreal. My book is finally ready for preorder (release June 8th). Foreword written by: @CoachHackGO You can purchase here on Amazon: a.co/d/05FgSWxs If you’d like a preview to see what it’s about DM me the word ‘book’ and I’ll send you the first chapter. - Whenever you create something like this, people want to know how it’s different. Why buy this when there’s so much out there? When I coached, I had to apply general leadership books or books from NBA/NCAA legends to my high school coaching career. All great books. But not written specifically to help me where I was. I was dealing with kids playing because their parents made them and having a player play poorly because he failed an exam or broke up with his girlfriend. So this is something uniquely for those coaching teens in any sport. Answers to problems that apply to you. Not stretching ideas to see if they fit. In the next few weeks you’ll see a book giveaway campaign and a bunch of endorsements written by superstar coaches of many sports and levels.

Sent a college basketball head coach a copy of my book asking if it had any relatability to college coaching, as it was written with a high school/amateur perspective. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was open to him saying something like, good stuff but not for us. He texted me this morning saying not only was it a great book for college coaches as well he sent an excerpt for his leaders to read because he found it so helpful. That blows me away. I’m so excited to get this out there. C2C will be going on preorder this month.

I'm putting out a call for help to my X community. My book, Care to Compete will be releasing this summer. I am hoping to get connected with as many sports and leadership podcasts as I can. You've all been so good to me so far, and I'm so thankful. If you could share with a connection of yours or even on your feed I would greatly appreciate it. I've been on a few great shows already... Never Stop Getting Better, Faith in the Zone on Fox Sports Milwaukee, Wisconsin Officials Association, and more. (With more already lined up) I can discuss topics from my book which include... ✅ Building a championship culture. ✅ How we've misunderstood the word 'care' for too long. ✅ How to gauge where your players or staff fall in their commitment level to your program. ✅ Creating a culture of awareness and accountability. ✅ And many more examples of building into those you are leading in order to get maximum production out of them. I'm also very open to discussing my faith and how that plays a vital role in my life. Why do I deserve your help in this? I don't. I've done nothing special for any sort of access to fame or attention. But consider me someone who has a desire to impact lives for the better and I hope this is helpful to anyone who hears it.

I couldn’t be more excited to show this book to my community and support system. I wouldn’t have ever believed this would be a path I went down. I didn’t like reading for most of my life and I can guarantee you my English teachers probably have no recollection of having me in their class. I can promise you that I’m more surprised than you are. But to be at a point where my bio will say “Author”, is a testament to God and my support system. God’s plan is greater than my own. If my success were dependent on me then I’d be a nobody going nowhere fast. In some ways quite frankly, I am a nobody. And I’m learning to lean into that. My wife and kids have given me so much affirmation throughout this. As Griffin frequently asks me “Dad, are you famous?” To which I have to say “Not even close.” Every single time. But this is for them. A major reason I took this step was to show my kids that anything is possible if you’re willing to work hard for it. Also shoutout the entire coaching community who has poured into me as well. This book is a product of your investment in my life. From phone calls to texts to podcast interviews, this is a group of people that I lean heavily on. I started this journey as a young cocky hotshot. Quickly I learned that humility and community is necessary for success. I was brought to my knees more times than I can count. Looking back, any success I had was because of the players in my locker room. I just had to allow them to be themselves. Care to Compete…. Coming this summer. Forward by @CoachHackGO

For any coach mulling over stepping down after this season. Let me break down how it felt, the pros, and the cons. First of all. Don’t make this decision quickly. Let the emotions from the season settle. Give yourself time to evaluate what’s best for you. You might’ve just had a horrible year. Don’t let one season be the driving factor. What it felt like: It was an identity change. When I walked around town I was no longer “Coach”. I was just another guy. I’m still not sure I’m comfortable with losing that identity. Pros: I get amazing quality time with my family every Thanksgiving and Christmas. That’s the first thing that shocked me. It’s unbelievable how much time normal people have on holidays to relax and enjoy. Not ever having to ride on the cold compact buses was a major win. I get to tuck my kids into bed every night and I didn’t realize how much of a blessing that is. Lastly, I’m free to say any of my opinion without fear of admin, board, or parents. It’s kind of fun actually. Cons: You can’t replace that thrill of competition with anything else. You will feel like a part of you is missing for a while. Your hoops opinion won’t matter much in the world either. Youth coaches and parents think you’re just one of them now. It’s hard not to have your ego hurt tbh. Watching high school sports is really hard. You’ll wonder if you made the right decision for a while. You have a ton of info in your brain that is no longer useful and that sucks.

It has bothered me most of my life that Christians in general can brush off athletic competitiveness because of the realm of eternal purpose. By I would disagree. Read it here 👇 v3content.org/huntersplayboo…

When I was hired to coach varsity basketball at just 26 years old I thought I was God's gift to basketball. You couldn't tell me anything. I knew it all. Well, heading into Christmas break in my first season I was 0-9. And I realized quickly how little I knew. My players were getting suspended. My offense was messy. My emotions were all over the place. I dreaded people asking me how it was going. Quite frankly my team was awful and I had no control. I quickly felt like maybe coaching wasn't my thing. After I got done throwing a pitty party for myself, I hit the reset button. I started asking others for help. I read more books. I hired assistants. Every week I'd text or call another coach and pick his or her brain. Turns out, you're much better off with others in your corner than standing alone with your chest out. Shocking. I know. But as coaches it's what we default to. "My stuff is the best." "I don't need to adjust." "I don't have time to read." "It's the kids not my system." So when I finally won, the emotion that overtook me was gratitude. I was thankful for every person that poured into me when I didn't deserve it. I was thankful to God for giving me a platform that I didn't think would ever happen. I found myself extra grateful for every little thing that I had disregarded beforehand. My advice to young coaches entering the field...Acknowledge that you don't have all the answers and that you need help. Find a good staff. Ask for a mentor. Read. Watch extra film. Success starts with humility.

I’m excited to share my new speaking brochure with you. Over the last few years, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with coaches, teams, leaders, athletes, and faith-based organizations about culture, resilience, leadership, and purpose-driven performance. My heart is simple: help everyday leaders win where they are, not just on the scoreboard, but in character, culture, and calling. At the heart of every coach and leader, is someone who has a deep desire to make an impact and succeed. Not only do I understand it, I've lived it, and I see you. If you’re planning: • Coach or staff development • Team culture building • Leadership events • Faith-based gatherings or retreats • Athletic programs or banquets I’d love to serve your group. Take a look at the brochure below, and feel free to message me if you think it could be a fit.

Morning thoughts: At the heart of every sport should be FUN. The competition was designed around a game. You might be thinking I’m talking about the kids. No. You coach. This should be fun for YOU. If it’s not you need to reevaluate your situation. If you’re not having fun I can assure you the kids aren’t.
