When it comes to keeping firearms secure, studies reveal that Veterans often identify financial barriers and perceptions of social support as barriers. An RMIRECC clinician collaborated with other researchers and Veterans to develop an intervention to incentivize secure storage via two monetary and one social incentive. July 27 marks the 73rd anniversary of the end of the Korean War. And we here at VA ECHCS want to thank and honor the service and sacrifice of those who served during the Korean War — a conflict marked by courage, resilience, and unwavering dedication to duty. On this anniversary, we remember all those who answered the call in defense of freedom, as well as the families who supported them through difficult times. We also recognize the lasting legacy of those who cared for the wounded and supported the health and recovery of service members during and after the war. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. We remember. We honor.

VA ECHCS will be training providers on the NADA protocol and need volunteers for trainees to train on at RMR, Daisy Room, A1-229, on Wednesday, July 29, from 1-4 p.m., and July 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteer registrations will be accepted until Monday, July 27, and time slots are on a first-come, first-served basis. Selected volunteers will be called on Tuesday, July 28, to confirm which timeslot they have received. Note: Employees who are not also Veterans will not have needles placed; they will have ear seeds placed. Volunteers are asked to commit approximately 30 minutes of their time for a trainee to need five acupuncture points in each other, a total of 10 points, and this is a one-time commitment. VA Eastern Colorado is recruiting veterans who are experiencing, PTSD-related nightmares to participate in a research study to help us understand if improving sleep quality, by reducing the impact of nightmares, can improve cardiovascular health. To be eligible for the study, veterans must experience repetitive nightmares related to PTSD and be between the ages of 22 and 88 years old. To our veterans living in Colorado Springs and the surrounding area, the PFC Floyd K. Lindstrom VA Clinic’s National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA)/Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) walk-in clinic for Monday, July 27, from 3:20-4:20 p.m., will be closed that day. Patients can still attend the Monday, BFA-only, walk-in clinic at the Lindstrom Clinic, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Regular operations for the Lindstrom Clinic NADA/BFA clinic will resume on Aug. 3. Do you have deployment-related asthma? Were you deployed to Southwest Asia or Afghanistan? Are you having active asthma symptoms? If you answered “Yes” to these questions, CU Medicine and VA Eastern Colorado are recruiting veterans to participate in a Deployment Related Asthma Research Study supplement research trial aiming to improve asthma control. Compensation is provided, research is done at the Anschutz campus in Aurora, Colorado. As a reminder to our veterans, the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center’s walk-in Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) Clinic is now on Mondays, excluding federal holidays, from 1:30-3:30 p.m., in Building G, Room 235. Additionally, the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) Clinic is now on Thursdays, excluding federal holidays, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., in Building G, Room 235.

To our veterans living in Pueblo and the surrounding area, the PFC James Dunn VA Clinic Imaging Department will be closed tomorrow, July 10, and Monday, July 13. Normal imaging operations are anticipated to resume on Tuesday, July 14 Patients who need imaging services may either go to the PFC Floyd K. Lindstrom VA Clinic in Colorado Springs and utilize their walk-in imaging services or wait until normal imaging operations resume at the Dunn VA Clinic. If emergent images are needed, discuss a community care consult with your provider.
