Moderating a panel or interview? Prep cheat sheet below:
- send an email asking panelists for: one sentence intro, top 2 speaking points they want to get out, anything they can't speak about
- do sufficient research to find at least 2 things that you would find interesting enough about each person or their expertise that you would ask if you were stuck next to them at a dinner party. I don't care how boring they or their career is...something exists.
- remember your job is to: manage time fairly, keep the pace/peace, and be aware of whether the audience is vibing with a topic to drill in on.
- a good moderator does those three things, a great one remembers the panelists stated taking points and guides them if they forget.
- finally and most importantly, be curious and excited to be there. If you're not, fake it. Dont expect an audience to be interested in something you're not.
