MLBPA interim executive director Bruce Meyer says that the players would actually be taking a $500 million paycut if they accepted MLB's salary cap proposal, and reiterated that they will never agree to a salary cap.

Just a reminder that saying MLB needs a salary cap means being able to not only get one but all the pieces of what a cap would actually entail.
You just don't say, "The top is this and the bottom is that"; it would be tied to revenues, deal with contracts already on the books, throw a wrench into the salary arbitration process, derail deferred compensation, adjust service time for entering free agency, and so much more. If you think it's going to be war to get a cap in place, imagine the wars raging within the war on how it would actually look.
