Hello VIRPILs! Firstly we want to thank everyone for the amazing reception of our new ATLAS FFB Base! We’re incredibly excited that the community can see the design benefits of the work our R&D has put in over the last few years! We’ve been collecting everyone's questions and we’ll be putting together a number of posts to give more insight into the VPC ATLAS. NO FFB SUPPORT? NO PROBLEM! A question that has come up multiple times is; “What if the game/sim I fly doesn’t have native FFB support?” We’re pleased to confirm that even without native FFB telemetry, the ATLAS will still perform incredibly - operating as a highly advanced, highly tuneable traditional flightstick - but with extra features. Thanks to the ATLAS’ unique gimbal and drive system - you can expect the same immense precision you’d get from our spring and cam gimbal flightsticks, with the same smooth response - no parasitic motor or gear effects as found with other designs. You will be able to perform a full suite of customisations to the ATLAS axis response to tailor the stick to your exact preferences. VIRTUAL CAM & SPRING WORKSHOP Using the VIRPIL FFB Software Suite you can design “virtual” cams to change the axis feel of the ATLAS. This goes far beyond our spring-based joysticks which include a handful of swappable cams as you can design “cam profiles” to your exact requirements. We will also be including preset virtual cams, based on our WarBRD/MongoosT-50 flightstick bases to give you a starting point when customising your ATLAS. Further to the virtual cams, you will have full control over “spring” tension and axis damping to levels that have previously been unavailable! These settings can be changed per axis, in both directions - allowing for more complex response tuning, for example creating a perfect omnithrottle in space sims. HARDWARE/FORCE TRIMMING Even without native FFB support, you can still make full use of our hardware trimming options. This allows you to physically trim the flightstick, or set a button that returns the joystick to the neutral position whilst leaving the logical axes offsets in place. Essential for realistic fixed and rotary wing flights! ADDITIONAL NON-NATIVE FFB FEATURES We are adding further highly requested features into our software suite including the ability to limit the flightstick travel range through software. This option will reduce the maximum output limits of the axis to a smaller angle with the motors force limiting at this set maximum point. Additionally we will be adding a force-stick emulation mode. This mode will restrict the flightstick movement and measure the force applied to the motor to emulate force sensing sticks such as that found in the F-16! No matter what game or sim you fly in, the VPC ATLAS is the ultimate upgrade! 🇪🇺 | virpil-controls.eu/shop/force-fee… 🇺🇸 | virpil-controls.us.com/shop/force-fee… 🇬🇧 | virpil-controls.co.uk/shop/force-fee…

Hello VIRPILs! When force feedback bases come up in conversation, people immediately think of sim racing where direct drive FFB has long been the standard there. However, our engineers chose a fundamentally different path for our FFB: the unique CDAS (Cord Drive Axis System), for which we’ve already filed a patent. Why doesn't the VPC ATLAS FFB Base use belts, gears, or direct drive? In sim racing, a steering wheel makes several full rotations - 1080 degrees or more. Flightsim controls are different: the joystick's travel is strictly limited to a narrow angle across two axes - 18 degrees in each direction for the VPC ATLAS. If our engineers had used a direct drive system, the motors would have a very restricted range of movement. Consequently, the motors physically wouldn't be able to convey subtle nuances or complex force feedback effects; they simply wouldn't have enough rotational range to accurately generate micro-forces. In contrast, our CDAS acts as a multiplier, giving the ATLAS Base key technological advantages: 🔬 MICRO-DETAIL The system allows our custom-built motors to rotate significantly more, even with minimal stick deflection. This provides the motors with high angular resolution, enabling the creation of detailed and smooth FFB effects. 📈 FORCE SYMMETRY Unlike competing devices, forces are distributed absolutely evenly and linearly across all axis directions. 🚫 ZERO BACKLACK Gears will never mesh perfectly and can wear out over time, while belts tend to stretch and exhibit springiness. The ATLAS CDAS design fundamentally eliminates backlash and stepped movement by not using any kind of gears/teeth to transfer forces. ❄️ REDUCED HEAT BUILDUP Motors generate the most heat during startup or at near-zero RPM. CDAS allows the motors to rotate faster, across a wider angle range even with small inputs, allowing the motors to reduce building up heat. 💎 DURABILITY AND SERVICE LIFE The synthetic cables used are rated for loads orders of magnitude higher than the base's own peak capabilities, and are materially stronger than steel in these applications nor will they stretch or deform over time. We know that an all new drive system can raise scepticism, which is why the ATLAS is built to be fully user serviceable, promoting your right as a customer to repair! The base continuously monitors cable tension electronically with convenient adjustment points located on each axis arm. For total peace of mind, the system is designed so that users can easily replace the cables themselves with spares included with the base! Years in the making - the VIRPIL engineers are confident that you’ll get to experience flight sim in a whole new light with the VPC ATLAS! 🇪🇺 | virpil-controls.eu/shop/force-fee… 🇺🇸 | virpil-controls.us.com/shop/force-fee… 🇬🇧 | virpil-controls.co.uk/shop/force-fee…

@VIRPILControls The very first question that crossed my mind when I saw the ATLAS FFB page is: Is there a rough timeframe for when the VPC UNIVERSAL COCKPIT FRAME might be available?I’m definitely getting the Atlas, but unfortunately, I can’t accommodate it without an "office chair" style setup.

VIRPILS - We’re ready to show you the VPC ATLAS FFB Base! This is our highly anticipated entrance to the force feedback flightstick segment - with years of intense research and development, we’re finally ready to bring you force feedback! The VPC ATLAS diverts from the “standard” approaches to FFB joysticks, this isn’t gear, belt or direct driven in the traditional senses. Our R&D department has researched these options in great depth, and noted the drawbacks that often come with these designs. So our designers came up with a new approach… Checkout our official forums for the full announcement! forum.virpil.com/index.php?/top…
