#ThrowbackThursday to the 2022 VIATC Proceedings and Tony Wofford’s paper, “Vibration Analysis of Belt Conveyors.” Belt conveyors may look simple, but as this paper shows, they can hide plenty of vibration “suspects” beyond the motor, gearbox, and drive pulley. Wofford walks through real-world case studies involving cleat passing frequency, winged pulleys, return idlers, shaker/vibrator interference, scraper chatter, cracked bend pulleys, and the importance of understanding both linear and rotational speed.
