City Power General Manager at Lenasia SDC, Mr Nelson Ravuku, responded to concerns raised by community members during the question-and-answer session of the IDP programme. The issues brought forward by residents largely centred on the vandalism of streetlights and the ongoing challenge of illegal electricity connections within various parts of the community. In addressing these concerns, Mr Ravuku acknowledged the severity of the problems and their impact on both service delivery and public safety. He explained that the vandalism of streetlight infrastructure not only disrupts essential services but also places a financial strain on City Power, as resources are repeatedly diverted towards repairs and replacements. He further noted that such acts contribute to poorly lit areas, which can increase safety risks for residents. Regarding illegal connections, Mr Ravuku highlighted the dangers they pose, including the risk of electrical faults, fires, and damage to the broader electricity network. #YourJoburgIDP2026^GR
