I keep seeing posts from Indians claiming that China has a caste system similar to India's. They keep throwing around the terms Shi (士), Nong (农), Gong (工), and Shang (商) as if they were ethnic groups. These were just the four primary occupations of a Confucian society.

My family were Shi (士), meaning "scholars," and Gong (工), "craftsmen." We literally had members serving as military and civil officials for five dynasties while maintaining the clan’s stonemason tradition. Social mobility were a thing here unlike in India.

@DiaspoidDoomer Well tbf merchants back in the day were also better off than most people. They had the money to hire professional scholars to teach them how to read and write; thereby, they could attend the Imperial examination, and most of them passed, either through high scores or bribes.

Although this is embarrassing, the photo in the news is fake. This was taken in Đà Nẵng a couple of years ago when the government ordered the relocation of many private cemeteries. The area where Trump supposedly made a purchase is an empty field.
