@VOdulate The club have conditioned us to think that if we get some of these players on the cheap that it allows to go for some of the big boys and then when a big boy becomes available we don’t want to do it.

Broke gimmick in 2026

You're reducing the concept to the absurd. You're making it seem like you must go into the market and overspend on every player, and be fine with it. It's simply unreasonable to do that. You have a valuation for the player in your mind, and you negotiate around that. Sure, you might end up overpaying by 5-10m ( as in the case of Mbeumo and Sesko), but 20m+ is obscene. It has multiple effects. You do that 2 or 3 times in a window and you miss out on another genuinely good player. Imagine we spunked 100m on Baleba last summer (I like the player, but that just wouldn't have been good business). It's good to have contingencies, except in cases where the player is basically unreplaceable (like Rice and Caicedo). Have a valuation, stick to it, be willing to stretch a bit, but be ready to move on if it's too big a stretch. It's just a slippery slope to go into the window with the intention and expectation to overpay.

@VOdulate If you think you can win a premier league title by buying players constantly at fair value I have some bad news for you. Have the chance to finally compete for the league again and y’all are worried about overspending by £10-20m on players 😭
