Early life events can significantly impact chronic pain. As @DrSeanMackey shared on the Huberman Lab episode out now, a recent meta-analysis of brain imaging studies found that people with early adverse life events often show abnormalities in emotional processing and functioning. This suggests that what happens to us early in life can impact us as adults and even change our neural wiring. These experiences can influence how we cope with pain, our levels of anxiety and depression, and our overall emotional health. Techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and acceptance and commitment therapy can be particularly effective.
