Vice President of India and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, bid farewell to the retiring Members of the Rajya Sabha in Parliament today. The Chairman, Rajya Sabha, noted that the retiring Members have made enduring contributions that will remain part of the institution’s legacy. He added that their insights and interventions have enriched the debates of the House and strengthened the democratic process. He wished the retiring Members good health, happiness, and success in their future endeavours, expressing confidence that they will continue to serve the nation with the same dedication and commitment. A total of 59 Members from 20 States, including 9 women Members, will be retiring between April and July this year upon completion of their term.

Deeply saddened to learn about the tragic bus accident that occurred in Nepal, in which seven Indian pilgrims from Tamil Nadu lost their lives and several others were injured. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones in this tragic incident. I have also asked the concerned authorities and the Indian Embassy in Nepal to extend all necessary assistance, including support for the injured and facilitation for bringing back the mortal remains of the deceased. @IndiaInNepal

Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan was accorded a Guard of Honour upon his arrival at Kangra Airport on his maiden visit to Himachal Pradesh after assuming office. During the visit today, he graced the 9th Convocation Ceremony of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh in Dharamshala and paid tributes at the State War Memorial.

Appreciating the university’s Community Lab initiative and efforts towards a drug-free campus, the Vice President urged the youth to commit themselves to nation-building, say “No to Drugs”, and always keep the nation first 'Rashtra Pratham'. The Vice President also expressed happiness that a majority of the medalists at the convocation were women, reflecting the growing empowerment and contribution of women to the nation’s progress.

Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan addressed the 9th Convocation of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh in Dharamshala today. Praising Himachal Pradesh as Dev Bhoomi and Veer Bhoomi, the Vice President said the state has made significant contributions to the nation’s armed forces and is known for its rich hospitality, culture and traditions. He emphasised that modern universities must prioritise faculty development, encourage innovation and strengthen collaboration to build a globally competitive education system. Highlighting the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the Vice President said students and youth are among the most important stakeholders in realising this aspiration and called for inclusive development where no state or section of society is left behind.
