I pray for strength and courage to them to endure this irreparable loss, and for the safe tracing of the missing persons.

Vice President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan released the book ‘The Library Man of India: The Story of P.N. Panicker’ authored by Shri P.P. Sathyan at Uprashtrapati Bhavan today. Paying tributes to Shri P.N. Panicker, the Vice President described him as a visionary who transformed society through the power of books, libraries and learning. He observed that a library can change a child’s future, a book can transform a life, and one determined individual can transform an entire society. Emphasising the need to revive reading habits among the youth, the Vice President called for strengthening libraries as centres of knowledge, creativity and social awakening. Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Tourism Shri Suresh Gopi, former Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Prof. P.J. Kurien, Vice Chairman of P.N. Panicker Foundation Shri N. Balagopal and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Appreciating the initiative of bringing Government school students from poor and marginalized backgrounds to Delhi on an educational tour, the Vice President said that such visits help students learn beyond classrooms and broaden their horizons. Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Shri Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, and Member of Legislative Assembly, Guntur West, Smt Galla Madhavi, were present on the occasion.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of former Union Minister and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Major General B. C. Khanduri (Retd.). With his demise, the nation has lost a distinguished soldier, an able administrator and a statesman of rare integrity. His visionary contribution towards transforming India’s road infrastructure through the Golden Quadrilateral and the National Highways Development Programme will remain a landmark in the country’s development journey. I was fortunate to meet him during my recent visit to Dehradun, we fondly reminisced about our association as former colleagues in the Lok Sabha. I convey my heartfelt condolences to his family, his countless admirers and the people of Uttarakhand in this hour of grief.

Deeply Saddened to learn about the tragic road accident in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the loss of precious lives. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Warm birthday greetings to former Prime Minister Shriman H. D. Deve Gowda Ji. A veteran statesman and respected parliamentarian, Shriman @H_D_Devegowda Ji has made significant contributions to public life and the nation through his long years of service. His humility, self-less service, commitment to democratic values and welfare of the people continues to inspire many. I pray for his good health, happiness and long life.

Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, while travelling from Gangtok to Bagdogra Airport today, made a brief stop at Mongpong and witnessed the breathtaking beauty of the Teesta River and the scenic landscape of West Bengal. He also expressed confidence that the State Government would further enhance tourism infrastructure and work towards the vision of a Viksit Bengal.
