The NCCCO Foundation and the National Safety Council’s Work to Zero program are conducting a national survey to better understand safety practices and challenges in crane operations. We’re looking for input from anyone involved in crane lifting operations, including operators, riggers, signalpersons, supervisors, safety professionals, and others working in the field. Your experience will help inform future safety initiatives, training, and certification efforts across the industry. The survey takes about 10–15 minutes and responses are anonymous. OSHA announces the publication of a new Safety and Health Information Bulletin (SHIB): Hearing Protector Fit Testing (HPFT): Ensuring Appropriate Noise Protection at Work. HPFT is recognized as a best practice in workplace hearing conservation. While HPFT is not mandated in OSHA regulations, the document gives employers and employees an overview of how HPFT fits with the Occupational Noise Exposure standard and provides resources for employers looking to implement HPFT. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has released its 2024 Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI). In the U.S., there were 5,070 fatal work injuries recorded, a 4.0% decrease from 5,282 in 2023. The most common fatal event was transportation incidents. Read more: bit.ly/4aIVxv1
