The anti GLP-1 people are the saddest new group to emerge. You can just see how badly they *want* to position themselves as wise, moral or virtuous for being against it... but there's just nothing in their corner. All the users I know are as happy with it as can be.

@VPregel @JustinP92286660 @Metal_Crow Do you know how many effective weight loss medications have been pulled from the market since the 1930’s due to side effects? Just because you minimize it doesn’t mean it’s invalid.

@VPregel @JustinP92286660 @Metal_Crow While on the topic of depression medication, I find it interesting that one of the side effects is suicidal thoughts…you know, the thing you’re trying to avoid. Imagine if a side effect of a diabetes medication was increased blood sugar.

@SorrrryNo @JustinP92286660 @Metal_Crow Like other medications used to control chronic conditions, people may keep using GLP’s long term. If they’re affordable and the side effects are minor or nonexistent, what’s the problem?

@VPregel @JustinP92286660 @Metal_Crow “Might come back on” is a weird way of saying that studies show that the average user will gain back 2/3 of their weight a year after they stop taking it.

@ShivaniM_KC Healthcare system can’t do it on its own. We would need to massively reconfigure how we move as a society (less car use, more biking and walking), and the government would need to highly regulate the food industry. Basically, we’d need to become Denmark in how we live. Unlikely.

Funny thing - when you ask people (healthcare professionals included) who respond to any conversation about GLP1 with… “but but but LIFESTYLE!!!” …. How would you exactly implement lifestyle measures at scale? There’s a stony silence I’m genuinely interested though - having studied obesity prevention in great detail. Someone tell me how the healthcare system should support people to lose weight, at scale.

@rebelempiricist @Metal_Crow There’s a moral aspect to it- some people consider being overweight as a moral failing, which should requiring suffering and repentance to overcome. GLP’s are “cheating.”

@Metal_Crow This is how I've always read it. Technological and scientific distrust (always present in America, but now ascendant) plus a deep-seeded belief that something that looks too good to be true probably is.

A theme that's emerging in the replies is that GLP-1 is a kind of narrative violation for people who think there is no way something could be this good without a major downside. They have simply come to expect a sort of karmic balance to things like this.

@Metal_Crow It’s a pretty America point of view, probably going back to the Puritan mindset that anything easy is sinful.

@Metal_Crow @SorrrryNo If you stopped injecting yourself, would you gain the weight right back? If so, you didnt fix anything, a drug is keeping you thinner.

@WVValkeryie @beinlibertarian Spanberger won by a landslide, and her election represents the will of Virginians. And the proposed redistricting has nothing to do with state elections. What are you talking about?

Bullshit. How to say you’re a democrat without saying it and not a resident of Virginia, comrade. Everyone with half a brain cell knows Alexandria is far more populated than say Rockingham and other Southwestern counties. What’s the matter can’t handle a fair election? And if that wasn’t the case why gerrymander the map?

You’re not gonna save Virginia by voting Republican. Northern VA has the rest of the State outnumbered. You will save VA by secession from NOVA. Stop sharing governments with people who hate you.

Ozempic was designed for diabetes. Then it became the biggest weight loss drug in history. Now a massive new study shows it also significantly reduces depression, anxiety, and addiction risk. One drug. Three completely different conditions. Science is barely keeping up with what GLP-1s are doing The study found that people taking semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy) saw major drops in depression and anxiety alongside the weight loss effects everyone already knew about. It also showed reduced risk of substance use disorders. A weight loss drug that may help treat addiction. Nobody predicted that.

@WVValkeryie @beinlibertarian Everyone in Virginia has equal representation already. Every person gets a vote. The GOP can win in Virginia, but they can’t do so if they run bad candidates. And no part of the Commonwealth is “overpopulated.”

@VPregel @beinlibertarian It would not. It would prevent overpopulated areas like NOVA from dictating the winners every election and guarantee equal representation throughout the ENTIRE state. Why you nervous if it was reality?

@VPregel @Fakharshahid @KeruboSk Im curious to know why you think an indoctrination camp would ever tell us the truth about petroleum based chemicals they use to formulate "medicine"? Academia doesn't teach us anything but what they WANT us to know. Im far smarter than some dipshit who was told what to believe

@beinlibertarian Too bad Virginia doesn’t copy the electoral college and say you have to win a majority of counties to win statewide elections. That would stop overpopulated NOVA from steam rolling the rest of the state.

@VPregel @TheImShadow @evanisaaclipkin @Cnote203 @pinkorsomething It's beyond clear what "food from a region" means and I don't understand why you're arguing it. Tomatoes come from America. Food made with Tomatoes are invented all over the world. Why do you have the brain capacity of a dumb child? Even a normal child would grasp this.

Tip: Don’t tell people on Ozempic that if they ate the same amount of food without the Ozempic, they'd lose the same amount of weight. They get very angry.
