So now that the new design is revealed, let me tell you a story on why she is so important to me… LONG PARAGRAPHS INCOMING!! I have low vision IRL. I have always worn glasses my entire life, as my prescription is -11 in both eyes. However, back in 2022, I discovered that my retinas detached in both eyes and needed surgery, else I’d go blind. I did the surgery, and the results were a scleral buckle in one eye with the addition of a gas bubble injected into it so it could heal naturally. Unfortunately, not all of my eyesight recovered. By the time I had discovered I needed this surgery, I had lost a lot of my peripheral vision and could not see well in low light anymore. It was nobodies fault, this was a slow process that had apparently been happening since I was 13 years old (as evidenced by the consistent scarring on my retinas). When I made the original 1.0 design of Ellwynbrook, she is who I wanted to be. Something unobtainable and out of reach for who I was, both physically and emotionally. She was tall, confident, “perfect.” However, over time that perfection seemed to falter as it became more and more unrealistic for me. My 2.0 design is based off of my body type, a pear. Something I’ve learned to love on myself. Most importantly, she has my low vision. She embodies my struggle to accept who I am… but if I find her beautiful, what excuse do I have for myself? 💜
