Chuck Norris has passed away at 86. We remember Chuck as a veteran of the US Air Force (1958-1962), where he was stationed in South Korea, which launched his career in martial arts. Norris' younger brother, Aaron Norris, served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and Norris' youngest brother, Wieland Clyde Norris, is listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 9W, Line 5. bit.ly/3S23q5H #chucknorris

The Wall bears 58,281 names and the Memorial honors the 2.7 million Americans who served in Vietnam. Each has a story. A story that deserves to be preserved for generations to come. As we prepare to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial – we are collecting those stories. We are looking for stories from those who served in Vietnam as well as family and friends of those who served and want to make sure that the stories of all our Vietnam veterans are preserved.

Happy birthday to Jan Scruggs! Scruggs is the Vietnam veteran who came up with the idea of building a national memorial that listed the names of service members who didn't return from the Vietnam War. With $2,800 of his own money, he raised support and got legislation passed until the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated in 1982. Happy birthday to Robert Doubek! Doubek was an early ally of Jan Scruggs to help get the Vietnam Veterans Memorial built. He suggested Scruggs form a non-profit, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, as a vehicle to build the memorial. As part of our VVMF family, Hero Dog Mitch was everyone's favorite co-worker. He brought a smile to your face and brightened the day of everyone he interacted with at The Wall in D.C. and in the many communities he traveled to with The Wall That Heals. We are incredibly sad to announce that Mitch's watch over his veteran ended today. His veteran, VVMF's director of outreach, Tim Tetz shared Mitch with all of us and for that - we are grateful. Mitch's friendly face will live on in our hearts and all who had the chance to meet him over the last 12 years.
