Moawia Bin-Sufyan MBE MStJ@MoawiaBinSufyan

Join the Vale of Glamorgan Community Cohesion Group @ValeCohesion I am proud to Chair the Vale of Glamorgan Community Cohesion Group, and I encourage all those involved in community work, public bodies, charities, and third sector organisations to join us in our mission to build stronger, more cohesive communities. The group brings together a diverse range of stakeholders, from local residents to key agencies, working collaboratively to enhance communication, reduce tensions, and promote transparency. Our focus is on ensuring that everyone feels heard and supported. By tackling critical issues such as hate crimes, antisocial behavior, and domestic abuse, we aim to create an environment where individuals from all walks of life can thrive. The data we review and the discussions we hold help shape policies and strategies that directly benefit the community. As Chair, I’m committed to bridging diverse perspectives and working alongside dedicated individuals who share a passion for improving society. Through our collaboration, we can prevent isolation, build trust, and ensure that every person feels valued. Community cohesion is everyone’s responsibility, and by joining us, you’ll have the chance to influence positive change in the Vale of Glamorgan. Together, we can make our community a place of inclusion, support, and mutual respect. For more information, please refer to the attached flyer. As we mark the end of the blessed month of Ramadan, my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating, #EidMubarak عيد مبارك. Eid al-Fitr is an occasion for celebrating the completion of Ramadan. We welcome the days of Eid, a time of gratitude, reflection and togetherness shared by millions across the world. It is a moment to pause, to give thanks for the strength to fast, to pray and to reconnect with what truly matters. Yet this Eid, like many before it, is marked by the weight of another unjust war and the suffering of so many. As we gather with family and friends, our thoughts and prayers remain with all those facing hardship, loss and uncertainty, regardless of faith or ethnicity. Their pain is not distant from us, it is part of our shared humanity. And on this day of Eid al-Fitr, we are reminded not only to celebrate, but to remember. To remember those no longer with us, whose absence is felt more deeply on days like this. To remember those who cannot celebrate in peace. And to remember our responsibility to one another. Eid is not only about joy, it is about compassion, generosity and standing with those in need. Please hold on to hope. However heavy things may feel, change does come. The night may feel long and dark, but dawn always follows. “Indeed, with hardship comes ease.” Wishing you and your loved ones a peaceful, blessed and meaningful Eid al-Fitr 🌙.

It was a real delight to attend @TaiPawb Annual Conference last week at the home of Welsh cricket @SophiaGardens, to celebrate the @PathwayToBoard Graduation Ceremony. The current cohort spent nine months on a comprehensive programme that provided expert led training modules, mentorship and real boardroom exposure, helping participants build the confidence, knowledge and networks needed to step into governance roles. The Chair of our Executive Board spoke about the importance of the programme, and it was inspiring to hear several members of the cohort share their personal journeys with the audience and reflect on what the experience had meant to them. We also thank Jayne Bryant MS, Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government @WelshGovernment, who kindly presented certificates to all our graduates. The Pathway to Board programme is about much more than training. It is designed to support people from ethnically diverse backgrounds to become board ready while addressing structural barriers that have historically limited diversity in governance across Wales. The results speak for themselves. According to a recent independent evaluation, 49 participants have completed the programme so far and 23 have already secured board positions, including several with the organisations that hosted their placements. The review also calculated that for every £1 invested, £3.40 of social value was created, demonstrating that investment in leadership diversity delivers tangible benefits not only for individuals but for organisations and communities across Wales. Programmes like this strengthen governance by widening the pipeline of talent, improving decision making and ensuring boards better reflect the communities they serve. Congratulations to all the graduates. Wales needs your leadership. If you would like to become a partner like @HafodHousing, @CCHACorporate, Taff Housing, Codi Group, Wales & West Housing, @UnitedWelsh, @NewportCityH and others to the programme, please get in touch. We will be able to provide more details on how public bodies, organisations and charities can get involved and support the next generation of diverse board leaders. If you would like to apply to join the next cohort, the current recruitment campaign is now open. You can find more information here: ccha.org.uk/pathway-to-boa…

It was wonderful to attend the Guildhall for the Worshipful Company of Educators Declaration Ceremony, where 20 new Freemen were declared and 4 members clothed in the Livery. Having had the opportunity to interview many of the candidates alongside my colleagues on the Membership Committee, it was particularly pleasing to finally see them stand before family and friends to make their declaration. Moments like this are a reminder of the commitment people make when they join a Livery Company and the important role these institutions continue to play in civic life. The calibre of those joining the Company is truly impressive, and it is clear that the Worshipful Company of Educators continues to go from strength to strength. My thanks to the Master, Wardens and Clerk for ensuring the evening ran so smoothly. A special word of appreciation to the Lower Warden and Chair of the Membership Committee, who took the time to read out the profile of each and every candidate so those present could appreciate the breadth of experience and talent joining the Company. It was also wonderful to see such strong support from fellow Court Assistants and our hardworking Past Masters, whose continued commitment plays a vital role in sustaining the life and success of the Company.
