I realised no one has said it to me like that in some time! (About student retention, non-submissions, data, systems - yes, but not about my experience as a teacher, let alone if I have joy in teaching!). Hearing these words today has made me feel supported & liberated. [2/2]

I had an induction meeting about teaching a new course next Sem. At the end, the course coordinator said "the important thing is you remember to enjoy teaching it!" I got struck by these words.[1/2]

This is when taking a developmental approach to training matters. Take the time to think of where the trainee currently stands and what their previous experiences have been. ✨Zones of proximal development and scaffolding are key✨

I've been thinking about cultural framings.. how "tweaks" like "you can use the bathroom on your terms", "you can leave the camera off", "you can complete this course without being graded" don't make sense if they're the only change.

Excavating and discussing / negotiating values makes these practical decisions easier and more meaningful. It also helps you to interrogate the decisions that are being made by default (e.g. policies that are "just the way we do things here").
