I am never quite certain why people complain so bitterly. I am having haggis for dinner tonight, and I intend to cook it with the sort of seriousness one usually reserves for religion or scandal. Lamb, beef, all the deliciously undignified wibbly bits, all the guts, all the honest anatomy that polite society prefers to disguise beneath a French menu and a silver cloche.
People draw back with that little shudder of theatrical disgust and say, ooh. One always suspects that the ooh is less a judgment than a confession of ignorance dressed up as taste. For what is haggis, after all, but the old and admirable refusal to waste what is perfectly good merely because it lacks social ambition? It is thrift elevated into art, and art, when properly seasoned, is nearly always offensive to bores.
And besides, one is tempted to ask, with all due vulgarity: have you ever looked at what is in a fucking hot dog? The modern world will swallow a tube of anonymous paste without a murmur, provided it is sufficiently pink and insufficiently explained, yet the moment a dish appears with the decency to admit that it contains organs, everyone begins behaving as though civilization itself were collapsing at the supper table.
No, I prefer haggis. At least it possesses the rare virtue of candour. It tells you exactly what it is: lamb, beef, oats, spice, blood, guts, substance, character. A hot dog, by contrast, is a mystery for people with weak imaginations and weaker standards. Haggis may be grotesque, but it is grotesque in the grand old style. A hot dog is merely furtive.

US coffee prices are surging at a record pace:
The average price of ground roast coffee is up to a record $9.46 per pound.
In February, coffee prices jumped +30.5% YoY, and have surged +127% since January 2020.
Over the same period, ground beef prices have risen +73% to $6.74 per pound, near an all-time high.
Furthermore, steak prices have soared +66% to a record $12.74 per pound.
Overall, the "food at home" category price level is up +31% while "food away from home" is up +36% since January 2020.
Food inflation remains a major issue.
