Absolutely crazy response to opening. People have had enough of the quarantine. Will be busy today again. Probably get picked out. Losing 45% of the crop in the freeze is really not helping, going to be a short season 😔. #strawberry #farming

Let’s talk about singulation! A once a year skill but it’s like riding a bike. These Galletta plants will be ready for June 2021 picking. #strawberry #familyfarm 🍓

@NWS_MountHolly Thanks for the reply. I have 3+ acres of strawberries in bloom. I was able to get up here by 3am to start irrigation mitigation on half the acreage. The other half we use row covers and did not put them out last night, so not sure if those will have made it.
English

@ValleyFruits Thanks for the question! Unfortunately the winds decoupled faster than forecast and temps fell a few degrees colder than anticipated so widespread frost wasn't expected. Hopefully your sensitive plants survived.
English

@NWS_MountHolly Why was there no frost advisory issued yesterday for this morning for Northampton County. I have frost at the farm (2 miles north of kABE) and it got colder than 38° forecast.

5 long, sleepless, cold 🥶 nights for the Smith family and we have viable blossoms!!! 🍓🙏😁 #familyfarm

@NWS_MountHolly Finally. My farm is only 2 miles north of the airport and we have been running 4° to as much as 8° below kABE mostly during night temps. It has been months like this. Glad your looking at it.
English

@girl_agronomist Good 👍. And to think it will be 80° end of week here. Too late though, damage is done. I pray urs make it thru.
English

@ValleyFruits I think we did. Most were still in the bud a bit. Tonight is ok at 38 worthy of careful watch but Sunday and Monday night we might be back at it with lows of 32.

In 42 years of strawberry production in southern MI, we've never made more ice to protect our crop 🍓🙏 hope we did enough #familyfarm

English

@girl_agronomist That's farming, right? We have freeze warnings again tonight for 10 hours. This is nuts. Did yours make it??
English

@ValleyFruits Oh no. Very sorry to see the dots of doom. That's the worst.

@JosephMartucci3 @NWS_MountHolly I foresee this in our future

***Big changes possible***
Our latest guidance indicates significant changes COULD be in store for Monday meaning a snowier forecast farther south including the Philly Metro area if this comes to fruition. Please check weather.gov/phi for updates. #PAWX #NJWX #DEWX #MDWX

@girl_agronomist We came close again last night here in E. PA but it stayed at 38°. Back on April 29 we got down to 29° and this was the result 🙁

English

What we really don't need anymore of is water but these guys really don't need tonight is to hit with frost. What a #spring19 #frost #PureMichigan

@farmmillennial Up to a couple years ago we used to get the rain gauge too. Now we get nothing and mine has been on its last leg for over a year 😂
English

10 years ago every company we did business with gave us a free rain guage. Now we get stainless steel coffee mugs. Those are cool too, but I just broke my last rain guage. #farmerproblems #mnmillennialfarmer

While we are waiting for the blossoms to come out on our berry plants, let's travel to Japan to see these WHITE strawberries! They are only $40 for a container...
