@dyingempires Varangopoulos, unfortunately we don’t have many sources from the time period. I have always wondered if some are tucked away on Athos or another monastery that we could glean some information from.

Or perhaps not. In 1404, Adam of Usk talked with an imperial delegation in Rome:
'From these Greeks I learned... that such men of British race, in token of their blood and lordship, bear axes in their country, which others do not.'

The Sack of Constantinople, the fall of the City, was also the end of the Anglo-Saxon Varangians. Some probably survived in Nicaea or Epirus. Yet, while the Guard endured, the brave Englishmen faded from the record. /12
