Very cool that people are starting to discuss game lore and yes reincarnation is a central theme. But the story, world design, and lore are deeper than you would think. Watching my reels and shorts you would think I'm an idiot, but it is a strange world where the same kid who grew up reading Indian mythology also grew up reading Bostrom and Godel and then somehow ended up making a game :D.
We have never spoken about the world or story of UTA because I personally think that that should a true surprise for most people.
My personal opinion is that our storytelling skills (as a storytelling company at Aeos) are underappreciated.
But that's okay because we haven't spoken much about it, and this is our shot now. UTA is not some good guy versus bad guy story, I wouldn't write such a morally boring story.
But I'm sure you must have questions: How does Bollywood or Indian film integrate with mythology in the same story? How does arrogance and showing off fit? What is our creative rendition of death and reincarnation cycles? Is it logical? Does it run like clockwork or are the rules arbitrary? Is the universe a complete one? I'll give you an example of the behind the scenes of how we think about this.
We asked ourselves a year ago if we can use real world phenomena to make analogies that are fundamentally sound: For example can we model the workings of Yamaloka like the human immune system? Can Kinkaras (servants of Yama) be like the Neutrophils of the universe, the first responders to soul infection? And can Pishacha be the scavenger cells? who arrive afterward to consume spiritual debris left behind by the Kinkaras? Can we create relationships between several entities known to our lore and play that out in game? And stop making the same old world where hell is a prison or some area that's just boring lava, but instead model it as the universe’s immune organ?
In UTA, cosmic mythology is not some thing that the game universe is set in. Mythology in UTA is a set of rules running parallelly alongside classical physics in the universe. It's how our universe explains what is happening inside it. Much of this is fictional and we had to be creative about some missing gaps in our Indian scriptures, but the rules are complete and self referential. Lots of interesting ideas are in Unleash the Avatar, I hope I can show you more of it over time.
As it stands our current focus is to first absolutely nail gameplay, animation and camera movement. Everything on the worldbuilding and story side is happening in parallel and that's the one part I want to show the least of before we finally ship. But I do love all the speculation, it makes our job fun and motivates us to do more!
As of now I do three jobs: The tech content creator, the founder of Aeos, and all the stuff I'm doing on the game. Juggling the communications of them all on the same channel and account is hard. But in actually doing the work I have help on all three: some of the best talent that I feel lucky to work with everyday. This is not a solo effort. These are multiple teams across multiple branches of Aeos working hard to prove that they're very good at what they and if not, ready to work very hard to keep improving. The improvement at Aeos Games is a visible example, but it happens all across the company in everything we do.
I leave you the screen that shows up right after you respawn, it's text, but just a tiny sample of what you can expect.

There's so much more, but we first had to get somewhat good with art, combat, animations, VFX, and level design. I'll keep teasing!
