Haven't been on here in a while, and my main excuse is that I've been finishing my thesis. I am thrilled to announce that I am #PhDone ! Defended and all. I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who supported me through this, from supervisors to friends and colleagues to family.

@RevDaniel I accidentally skipped the line that said "by people who hate my tweets" and it made so much more sense. Both sound like great compliments tbh

@officialhambly I'm kind of glad you (and other knowledgeable people) say this though, I keep thinking I'm going crazy every 6-8 months when I go to a store in hopes of replacing some clothing item

It’s becoming frustrating for me as someone who deeply loves fashion and textiles to see fabric quality degrading so much that even mediocrely sewn pants made from my local deadstock store’s selection is vastly better than some of my more expensive pants ($100+) I already own

@kimedieval I ask people to write things down or spell them out a lot, and to wait a bit to give me a chance to process things. Also to repeat the thing (more or less) exactly if i ask what they said

@j_n_foster Not sure if I have advice, but I feel your pain so much. I hate having hair on my forehead and am desperately overdue for a haircut. I have a side part and use a wax that isn't very sticky to keep my hair out of my face and looking a bit fluffy.

@officialhambly If you're looking for advice: Have you tried using a spray intended to remove puppy accident stains/odors? They're surprisingly good at removing stains!

If my niece did not vomit all over my plus size dress form that I’m still trying to get the stains out I would be making it rn 😭😭😭

This one specifically in plus sizes would be unstoppable I fear

@ThetaState Fingers crossed! Our doodle is on an elimination diet rn bc of persistent stomach problems. His name is Bilbo and he is very much a hobbit. The elimination diet is _not_ fun. But here's a photo of him snuggling his squeaky raccoon!

@j_n_foster Literally yesterday I was talking to my gf about this! We've both gotten shots/had blood draw by people who did it really well and then didn't understand our compliments. It can hurt so bad so any not-terrible experience is a relief tbh, and a good one?? Amazing.

@dan_sinykin How is it usually taught? I'm probably missing some context here, but what you describe kind of sounds like how most of my theory courses introduced theories to us. Ofc all quite superficially since those were survey courses, but basically like that.

@tutubuslatinus I want to translate archipirata as Archpirate. It could either mean an important pirate or be used to refer to pirates who hate each other.

Just for fun, a few first declension nouns : pirate, pirate captain, monkey and banana.

@mobilecrates @mizabitha I have this scale saved to my phone to remind myself, and occasionally, others, of how bad "mild" pain actually is. Like, no, you're not fine due to your "high pain tolerance", you are IN PAIN and need to REST!

@mizabitha this is my preferred pain scale, it makes it more of a "ability benchmark" test

I was talking to my dad about those 1-10 pain scales they use at doctors' offices and how they don't really work and my dad, an engineer, said they should have a standardized needle they stab you with as a benchmark and tell you, "This is 5."

Have a friend who’s obsessed with space so every time he posts a pic of some moon or another I tell him about who it’s named for (most recently, Tethys). Fortunately he seems to enjoy this and it has yet to end the friendship since, as I’ve told him, I am incapable of stopping.
