Carbon credits were devised as a market-oriented mechanism to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Companies get a set number of credits, which decline over time, and they can sell any excess to another company. Thus the "cap-and-trade" is an incentive to reduce emissions.

Where do we begin? We must start by measuring and paying for the environmental impacts embedded with the products and services we consume, such as plastic waste, methane emissions, and deforestation.

Carbon credits are to reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. One credit permits the emission of a mass equal to one ton of carbon dioxide. According to the Environmental Defense Fund, that is the equivalent of a 2,400-mile drive in terms of carbon dioxide emissions.

We believe the best way to combat carbon emissions and environmental degradation is by bringing the power of markets to bear on the problem. We know that addressing tough issues and accepting responsibility for making the world a better place is the right thing to do.

Companies are beginning to understand the value of the Earth’s finite resources, including clean air, biodiversity, arable land, and clean water. The price of the goods and services we consume currently does not include the adverse environmental impacts embedded within them.
