A woman who was gang-raped and her younger sister, who suffered from guilt, both took their own lives. Later, their mother was sued by the rapists and is now required to compensate them financially. In 2004, a woman worked as a film extra. While working, she was raped by four men and sexually harassed by eight others. Afterward, she began exhibiting strange behaviors at home, such as mumbling to herself or breaking objects. Her family took her to the hospital, where they discovered that she had been raped by multiple men. She received treatment at the hospital and filed charges against the perpetrators. However, the men threatened her, saying things like, “I will burn down your house” and “I will kill your entire family.” Out of fear, she withdrew her charges. On August 18, 2009, she jumped from the 18th floor of an apartment building and died by suicide. In her suicide note, she wrote, “I was a sex toy for those men” and “I have no reason to live anymore.” Six days after her suicide, her younger sister also took her own life. She felt guilty because she had recommended the job to her older sister. After losing both daughters to suicide, their father suffered a stroke due to shock and passed away. The mother grieved deeply over the suicides of her daughters and the death of her husband. She was also enraged that none of the men who had raped her daughter faced any punishment. In 2014, she filed a civil lawsuit against the twelve men who committed sexual crimes against her daughter. However, because three years had passed since the crimes occurred, she lost all of the lawsuits. As a result, the perpetrators faced no consequences. Instead, they sued the mother for holding solo protests with placards that read “Rapist! Murderer!” (In South Korea, there is a law called “Defamation by Fact,” which allows individuals to sue for defamation even if the statements made are true.) Several of the perpetrators filed lawsuits against her and won. Since they won all three trials, she is now required to pay them compensation ranging from 3 million to 5 million KRW per person. Other perpetrators also filed lawsuits against her. In one trial, the court ruled that she must pay them 10 million KRW in damages and refrain from posting anything about them online in the future. If she violates this ruling and posts about them online again, she will have to pay them an additional 1 million KRW per post (this ruling is not yet finalized; if she appeals, a second trial will take place). I feel deep sorrow for the woman who was raped and driven to suicide, for her younger sister who suffered from guilt and also chose suicide, and for their father who died from shock after losing his daughters. I am heartbroken that their mother is now left alone and is required to pay money to these perpetrators. What does South Korea’s legal system exist for? naver.me/GtUFtYtO

south korea is such a fucked up country, no wonder many korean men (especially idols) feel like they're untouchable by the law.

They are so quick with the arrest of the youtuber trying to expose his musty ass but not him for grooming a child. He wasn’t questioned once. He did a press conference with tears and ran away when a reporter asked him when and where he first met Kim Saeron. That’s all. It’s like the police are working to free him like he employed them and not find out the truth. What a joke🚮

Kim Se-ui faces pre-arrest interrogation today over alleged defamation of #KimSooHyun, AI-manipulated claims involving late #KimSaeRon. According to reports on Star News; Kim Se-ui, the head of controversial YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute (Gaseyeon), is set to undergo a pre-arrest interrogation (warrant review hearing) at the Seoul Central District Court on May 26 over multiple allegations linked to actor Kim Soo-hyun and the late actress Kim Sae-ron. Kim Se-ui has been accused of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes, including charges related to filming and distributing material using cameras, along with defamation allegations. The charges stem from claims broadcast through the Garo Sero Institute YouTube channel, where Kim Se-ui allegedly spread false information stating that Kim Sae-ron dated Kim Soo-hyun while she was still a minor. He also reportedly claimed that pressure from Kim Soo-hyun’s side regarding debt repayment contributed to the actress’ death. Additionally, Kim Se-ui is accused of using artificial intelligence technology to manipulate Kim Sae-ron’s voice and fabricate statements attributed to her. One of the alleged fabricated claims stated that she “had sexual intercourse with Kim Soo-hyun for the first time during the winter break of her second year of middle school.” The court’s decision following the warrant review hearing will determine whether Kim Se-ui will be formally arrested as investigations into the case continue. #KimSooHyun’s legal team breaks silence after police dismiss minor dating allegations; says actor must "return to his original place". According to Korean Media; Kim Soo-hyun’s legal representative has issued a fresh statement after police reportedly concluded that allegations made by Kim Se-ui regarding the actor dating the late Kim Sae-ron during her teenage years were false. On May 23, lawyer Ko Sang-rok stated through social media that Kim Soo-hyun is “merely a victim of a crime” and not a direct party involved in the criminal proceedings currently surrounding the controversy. He further explained that the actor’s side intentionally avoided responding to every allegation repeatedly raised by Kim Se-ui through YouTube broadcasts and said they plan to maintain that stance moving forward. The lawyer added that after a long investigation, authorities have now confirmed the facts surrounding the alleged harm caused to the actor. He stressed that Kim Soo-hyun should now be allowed to “return to his original place”. Ko Sang-rok also stated that society should help crime victims return to their normal daily lives as quickly as possible, calling it an important part of a healthy society. The statement comes shortly after the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office reportedly sought an arrest warrant against Kim Se-ui on May 20. He has been accused of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes, specifically regarding the distribution of illegally shared footage and materials. According to the arrest warrant application submitted by Seoul Gangnam Police Station, investigators stated that Kim Se-ui allegedly spread false information despite allegedly being aware that Kim Soo-hyun had not dated Kim Sae-ron while she was a minor and that Kim Soo-hyun was not responsible for the actress’ death. The controversy originally began in March 2024 when Kim Sae-ron briefly uploaded and deleted a close photo with Kim Soo-hyun on social media while she was reflecting following her drunk driving scandal. The image fueled dating rumors online. At the time, Kim Sae-ron hinted she was preparing an official statement but later decided not to release one. Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, strongly denied the rumors, stating that the claims were groundless and that they did not know the intention behind Kim Sae-ron’s actions. Tragically, Kim Sae-ron passed away at her home on February 16 last year at the age of 25. Following her death, Kim Se-ui and Kim Sae-ron’s bereaved family held multiple broadcasts and press conferences beginning March 10, alleging that Kim Sae-ron had been in a six-year relationship with Kim Soo-hyun starting from her middle school years while the actor was allegedly in his late 20s. As part of those allegations, Kim Se-ui publicly released screenshots of alleged KakaoTalk conversations, voice recordings, and private photos connected to Kim Sae-ron. The escalating controversy eventually pushed Kim Soo-hyun to hold a press conference on March 31, 21 days after the allegations first surfaced publicly. Via Newsen #HallyuForums #Hallyu
