🇬🇧 Private W. Stack of No. 9 Commando prepares for a patrol at Anzio, Italy, on 5 March 1944, armed with a Browning pistol. During the Anzio campaign, British Commandos carried out dangerous patrols along the contested front and into no-man's-land, gathering intelligence and probing enemy positions. Lightly equipped but highly trained, these elite troops relied on stealth, speed, and initiative in the tense fighting around the beachhead. 📸 Photo: Imperial War Museums (IWM NA 12472) – © Crown copyright 1944 (Sgt. "I worked in a factory, felt life wasn't what I wanted, saw a advertisement in the paper and went for it. Never looked back was the making of me. The Army gave me a chance to prove to myself that I could be who I wanted to be." Thank you Rose Bradley for your story. This was in response to the question 'What inspired you to take your first steps into the Armed Forces?'

Simon Weston became Britain's most well-known veteran when he returned from the Falklands Conflict with life-changing injuries. His remarkable resilience and bravery captured the nation's hearts, but as he reveals in this interview with the Veterans' Foundation, what the public didn't see were the battles he had with his mental health. Battles that took him to the brink of suicide. Find out how a meeting with the Argentine pilot who dropped the bomb that caused Simon his injuries - as well as taking the lives of 48 men - played a role in his recovery. And also discover why Simon has just joined the Veterans' Foundation as an ambassador - a post, he says, he's 'proud' to hold. *You can help heroes like Simon by playing the Veterans’ Lottery – this month’s jackpot is £75,000! A former Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineer has described how he has “faced the future with fortitude” after his life was turned upside down when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED). The devastating incident – captured on a helmet camera worn by a fellow soldier – resulted in Alec Waters losing both legs above the knee. Despite the immense physical and emotional trauma, Alec spent the following decade rebuilding his life, drawing on extraordinary courage and determination to overcome the odds.💪

We hope WWII veteran Stan Woolley had a fantastic 100th birthday. 🎂 Stan served in the Royal Marines during WW2, joining in 1940 and spending time aboard the aircraft carrier Theseus. He was one of five brothers who served during the war. To celebrate his milestone birthday, Stan was overwhelmed by an incredible show of support. What began as an appeal for 100 birthday cards quickly went viral. In the end, more than 1,500 cards arrived from across the UK and around the world, including messages from serving personnel and a special card from King Charles III. 👑 Thank you for your service, Stan. 🇬🇧 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Private G. Mills of the 2nd Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment prepares to engage the enemy with a PIAT (Projector, Infantry, Anti-Tank) on 6 March 1945. The PIAT was one of the British Army’s primary infantry anti-tank weapons during the Second World War. Though heavy and demanding to operate, it gave infantry soldiers the ability to stop enemy armour at close range. By early 1945, as Allied forces pushed deep into Germany, weapons like the PIAT were vital in the fierce fighting that continued across North-West Europe. 📸 Photo: Imperial War Museums / Christie (Sgt), No. 5 Army Film & Photographic Unit – Public domain (Crown copyright expired; via Wikimedia Commons)

"Dad did 24 years in the army, RE then RCT, he was stationed at Bulford as I was completing secondary school. I'd failed GCE English and was waiting for my re-sit. I overheard him and mum talking, saying he was going to sign me up in the army if I didn't sort my life out. I signed on with the RAF as a communications, later avionics, technician and did 26 years. My brothers both did 22 years in the Royal Signals and my sister married a soldier. Between us, we have 120 years of service to the Crown." Thank you to Brian Luckham for your story ❤️🇬🇧🫡
