That Tetracycline antibiotics you take as a pregnant woman can cause permanent harm to your child's teeth. Tetracycline antibiotics are a group of broad spectrum antibiotics generally contraindicated in pregnancy, especially after the first trimester. This is because, they readily cross the placenta and BIND TO CALCIUM in developing fetal tissues. Calcium is needed amongst other minerals in the development of teeth. Tetracycline binding to calcium in fetal development can lead to permanent discolouration of the baby's teeth, enamel hypoplasia, and impaired bone growth. As a pregnant woman avoid self medication and ensure you get your doctor's advice (not a quack doctor) before going ahead to take any medication.
