Dear Doctors, If you see a patient in your clinic who has been brought along by their partner, who is strongly suggesting to you that their partner is mentally ill and needs medication or a diagnosis, consider the following: 🚩 Lots of abusive partners insist on taking their victim to the doctor to have them diagnosed as having mental health issues 🚩Abusive partners benefit from their victim being diagnosed as mentally ill instead of traumatised from the abuse, and will often use the medication to threaten or gaslight their victim 🚩 Abusive partners will often hold the MH diagnosis over the victim; and either convince the victim that they are going mad, or that no one will believe them 🚩 Pathologisation of a victim of abuse on their medical records will change their life, and mean they are likely to be disbelieved when they come forward - or CPS/police will drop the case due to third party materials (your notes) which frame the victim as mentally ill instead of a victim of abuse I train medical professionals to look out for this kind of abuse tactic, common not only in domestic abuse, but also in child abuse. Abusive parents are known to use this strategy, too - meaning the behavioural changes of their child are seen as disorders instead of trauma. Thank you for listening.

The most liked comment on a video of a girl dancing… The most liked. Meaning, thousands of people agree. Millions, probably billions of women are subjected to rape in their lifespan. Our society is full of rapists & enablers.

Sexual assault of women and girls is so common that it will correlate with anything though. Drinking alcohol. Having blonde hair. Eating chips. Maybe we need to talk about the fact that we’ve created a society that is pro-rape, and pro-VAWG, and instead of addressing it, we are pretending that women going out and having a drink is causing men to abuse them. Alcohol doesn’t rape. That’s why when men go to the pub with the lads, they don’t get drunk and sexually assault each other. Alcohol is not the causal factor here.

Every experience of pregnancy and motherhood is unique. Our feelings, thoughts, memories and bodily responses mean different things to all of us, and there is little in the way of support and understanding around this. VictimFocus wanted to help provide some solutions to that using our expertise in trauma-informed and strength-based practice. This journal contains hundreds of reflective writing, doodling and thinking tasks which you can do in your own time, at your own pace, as well as information and facts about topics such as conception, pregnancy, birth, miscarriage, post-natal trauma, raising children, parenting choices and techniques and feelings about motherhood. This therapeutic resource has been designed to support children who have been subjected to abuse, reinforcing anti-victim blaming messages in a variety of settings. The sentences and phrases on these flashcards have been developed to encourage open, honest communication and spark interesting discussions with a child. The uplifting messages can help a child to further understand that they are never to blame for abuse, that they are capable and whole, and that they have a bright future filled with possibilities. victimfocus-resources.com/products/flash…
