Beautiful, fundamental paper. A simple characterization of the extreme points of the space of monotone functions sandwiched between a given pair of such functions. Many fun applications—here’s a cool one: Which distributions of posterior *medians* can be induced by some signal?

Kahneman and Tversky proposed a theory of choice that was psychologically plausible and mathematically precise. They showed that a better kind of theory was possible. Rest in peace, Danny Kahneman.

In economics this is called an "information cascade", and is thought to be one possible explanation for asset bubbles.

Here's another result due to David Blackwell. It is called the Choquet-Deny Theorem, even though Blackwell proved it five years earlier, in 1955. BTW, this was the year he was hired at Berkeley, after getting snubbed in 1942 because of racism. He spent 1944-1954 at @HowardU.

Economic theory is full of surprising results that are easy to describe to a layperson. Thinking about upcoming teaching, some (below) came to mind. What other ones come to mind? [I'm abusing tweeetic license and omitting caveats needed to make all these statements correct.]

Forthcoming in @JPolEcon, one of my favorite papers—by {@doronravid, Roesler, Szentes}. It studies a game between a buyer and a seller. Simultaneously, the seller decides on a price to post for a good, and the buyer decides how much information to acquire about the good's value.

@AnthonyLeeZhang Gleb Romanyuk and Alex Smolin address this question in this paper: aeaweb.org/articles?id=10… They characterize the optimal recommendation policies that an efficiency concerned platform should make to drivers to avoid the " cream-skimming " effect that you mention.

Another example is uber rides. Drivers to some extent have the same ranking of which rides are good vs bad (long vs short rides for example). So if we gave drivers some ability to reject bad rides, "searching" for the good ones, in the end everyone could be worse off
