As a lifelong Farmer - who is also a Lawyer - I can attest the manipulation of this cause by these Republican shills is disgusting.

A lot of people are up in arms over a local case in Tulsa this week. They (rightfully) express that the father who drove drunk , flipped his car and killed his daughter (before running away) *SHOULD* go to prison for life. I agree. He *should*. He won't though. Our LEGISLATURE has spent the last 10 years working to lower penalties on criminals, and keep them out of jail/prison. Our laws have specific elements that have to be met to prosecute someone for a specific crime. When they are convicted of those crimes , the law spells out the sentencing ranges. It doesn't matter what they *Deserve*, it only matters what the law allows. If a case goes all the way to jury trial - our Judges WILL sentence on the low side of the sentencing ranges ALWAYS - and will probably suspend most of the sentence whenever they can. Judge Holmes is an absolute embarrassment to the judiciary - and yet she just got reelected by default, because NOBODY tried to run against her. Unfortunately, our VOTERS hold some blame too. You cannot vote for nonsense like SQ780, then whine when criminals are not held accountable. Too many people heard "First in incarceration" -and without ever looking into the statistical wizardry they used to come up with that utterly meaningless statistic - used it to emotionally vote for bad policy. If you want criminals held accountable - then tell your legislator. Tell the Governor - he's been more than happy to release violent criminals from prison to go out and immediately reoffend (because the legislature let him). Demand Truth in Sentencing laws. Demand our legislature revamp our laws that deliberately slow down the justice system. You can be mad - but you need to be mad at the right people. Sometimes that includes yourself.
