Please welcome PEP 827 -- the result of a year-long research into what would it take to uplift Python's type checking to match its dynamism. peps.python.org/pep-0827/

⏰ New PEP alarm! ⏰ Limitations in software engineering are meant to be broken. For years I was bothered with the gap between Python and TypeScript: one has incredibly dynamic and powerful runtime, the other has incredibly dynamic and powerful type system. So why not both? 🔥

I've finally updated my home page: not only does it look a little less like a relic from the previous century, but I've also scraped by various blog posts and put them in the same GitHub repo. gvanrossum.github.io or python.org/~guido. All thanks to Claude Opus 4.6.

I wrote a new PEP with Donghee Na (@dongheena92): "PEP 814: Add frozendict built-in type": discuss.python.org/t/104854 A new public immutable type frozendict is added to the builtins module. The insertion order is preserved and a frozendict can be hashed.

In the Python C API, I dislike APIs modifying immutable objects like _PyBytes_Resize(). I designed a new PyBytesWriter API to replace this function. As usual in Python, it took multiple iterations and one year to design the API and to reach an agreement. vstinner.github.io/pep-782-pybyte…

The future Python 3.15 just got a new os.statx() function thanks to Jeffrey Bosboom! Documentation: #os.statx" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">docs.python.org/dev/library/os… The syscall was added to Linux 4.11 (released in 2017) and glibc 2.28 (2018). For example, it gives access to birthtime, mount ID and subvolume ID.
