@notinherthrall The way the show switches off & on Alicents and Helaenas understanding of their basic material/political reality is really quite something. Like oh I guess in this particular scene their baseline understanding of their own world is up and running! Now how about the next one?

So Helaena has enough wherewithal to understand that she might be in danger, or at least at risk of not being able to leave, and actively hide a pregnancy, but we're supposed to believe she had NO idea that the Blacks would be forced to see HER dragon as a Green dragon???

Showrunner Ryan Condal on Queen Helaena’s pregnancy in #HouseOfTheDragon Season 3: “Helaena being pregnant is a major complication for her, given the fact that she is literally under Rhaenyra's shadow and is her prisoner. And if that child is a boy, it will be very problematic for both Rhaenyra and for her and Alicent. @shre_vid Viserys is such a good example of the show adapting an existing book character warts and all, instead of near replacing them. Wish they had shown the same creative bravery when It came to other characters.

It's crazy how all sides of the conversations whack Viserys but he was the emotional centre point for all characters. Paddy's performance aside, he was the one all these characters would've gone to war for despite not even liking him * that's why S1 in general was so emotional.

Instead they scoff or barrel past the argument without directly addressing it, the writers hoping to god that by not having them attack how weak the argument is the audience also won’t notice and will think “oh so this person has a bit of a point”

The shows arguments scenes are still stilted as fuck because one character is usually written with two hands tied behind their back in the sense they’re not allowed to bring up any of the counterargument elephants in the room

I haven't read it but it really does say so, so much that its a self insert fic with book Rhaenyra no where to be found.
