It’s true that “sī” for the simple past of hoṇā is ubiquitous in most forms of Punjabis, but why do non-Punjabis seem to believe that we use sī for the present tense as well?

Our university has a South Asian president. A white admin once celebrated this fact in pre-negotiation small talk before rejecting a proposal relating to a racialised community. Urdu-Hindi is the only modern South Asian language we teach….

Our university has cut my Urdu-Hindi lecturer position in this year's austerity budget, threatening the viability of the program. I'm so grateful to my summer 2024 Urdu Poetry students for their kind donations. 💚 I'm going to try to use that money to keep it going.
