They became known as "The Only Band That Matters," but behind that title, they were barely holding together. Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, and Paul Simonon set the foundation. Drummer Topper Headon joined in 1977. They called themselves punk, then broke nearly every punk rule, pulling in reggae, dub, funk, and even early hip-hop. They fought to keep album prices lower for fans, even when it cost them money. Headon was fired in 1982 over drug problems, even though he helped shape their sound and wrote the music for "Rock the Casbah." Then came the real blow. Just over a year after Combat Rock gave them their biggest success, co-founder Mick Jones was fired in 1983. The band that stood for rebellion couldn’t survive itself. Do you know their name?

🤘 What if Iron Maiden wrote “Dancing Queen”? “Dancing Queen (Maiden Version)” You are the Dancing Queen Young and sweet, only seventeen But the night is calling, the reaper’s near In the disco lights, you face your fear! See that girl, watch that scene Digging the Dancing Queen Galloping riffs and thunderous bass Bruce hits the high note, blows the place! (Twin guitar solo explodes into a 3-minute epic battle) Friday night and the lights are low… but the metal is high!

@lone_rides I did a very limited study on this, so take it with a grain of salt. What I found was that conservatives are more likely to have the halo effect, but liberals are more likely to demonize the outgroup.

“Conservatives don’t have empathy for the out-group.” Swing and a miss, Skippy. I’ll lay a dollar to a donut that conservatives as a whole are more effectually empathetic than liberals. 1. More conservatives are law enforcement, fire fighters, and military than liberals. While you’re patting yourself on the back for acknowledging some mentally anguished child’s pronouns of the day, these people are willingly stepping in harms way for someone that they’re not related to, or even know. 2. Conservatives give more to charities than liberals. Now, I’m talking actual charities, not government funded NGOs that make cash disappear like the Statue of Liberty on a David Copperfield special. From pregnancy care and foster/adoption services to homeless programs, food banks, and helping the community, conservatives do more than vote for higher taxes and more government spending. 3. Conservatives act out their empathy by doing what is right versus what feels good. What feels good is spending millions on SNAP; you voted for it so you can check off “I have empathy”. What is right is helping with limits so that people have a chance to get back on their feet while balancing concern for those people who are paying into the program and don’t want to watch their hard earned money be wasted on fraud. Liberals say the right things. They scream the loudest. They chant the hardest. But all their solutions come down to laying the burden of the solution on the shoulders of other people. That’s not empathy. Conservatives don’t often voice what we do. We don’t address both sides of the SNAP conversation because we’re focused on the fraud. We don’t talk about the homeless issues except to point out government’s failure to fix the issue. Yet we donate money and time. You’re not more empathetic. You’re just more narcissistic in trying to show off how empathetic you are.

@AidenCereceres @WeAreAustinTV 2 against El Paso, 1 against Houston, and a penalty. Fair call out, I only included league games. We'll see at the end of the season. If he turns our season around I'll be happy to be wrong. Right now, I would prefer Uzuni and Nelson. No need for ad hominem attacks though.

@VinceJeevar @WeAreAustinTV In all comps he played 22 games last year, and scored 9 goals, therefore he scores a goal about every 2 games. I would advise that you actually watch the games instead of getting you information off of Wikipedia😂

@NME @liamgallagher @Manics @suedeHQ Those of us around for Oasis v1.0 have seen this before. It's only a matter of time before Noel's in the firing line and Oasis 2.0 dies. I wouldn't bet too much on a 2027 tour.

Tucker Carlson: “One of the reasons that I have a lot of trouble going to church is [because] all these Christian leaders are so flawed and so obviously fake. I can’t deal with it,” said Tucker. “It freaks me out.” This is simultaneously something that tons of people agree with and also something that is wrong-minded. Imagine how corrupt every single pastor has to be, pastors you’ve never met or heard of, for the above reasoning to be sound. It’s just high slander against countless men who have devoted their lives to the service of the body of Christ. Moreover, when we isolate ourselves from accountability and a local church family we get weird, and not in the funny haha way.

@WeAreAustinTV @HernanATX @AustinFC Ramirez HAS to start. Even when Vazquez is back. Torres and Ramirez seem to have some chemistry. Add in Wolff and Vazquez to that mix and we might be able to actually compete.

@WeAreAustinTV Very important win, not just because of the midweek game, but because of the opponent. Great mentality, although the last 10 minutes we slipped into old habits, that was hairy. Now, consistency is the key. Keep the confidence high, get a couple of results and build on it.

@WeAreAustinTV This Nelson kid is a difference maker. We're looking so much better going forward with him. Still some sloppy passes, and defense is still worrying, but this is a step up on the last game. I'd call this a decent first half, so far. Much improved (not just because of the goal).

@darwintojesus I say I have 3 objectives for morality. Freedom fairness and wellbeing. People say that's subjective. I say there's a real difference between sex and rape. Rape is an Imposition of will. Numbers only exist in our minds, but it's something we can be objective about.

The vast majority of atheists are moral subjectivists, but when I ask them why something like child abuse is wrong, they say it's wrong because it harms the child. But that would be objective... if it's wrong because of the nature of the act, then they're not a subjectivist. To be a subjectivist means it's wrong because you don't like it, not because it's harmful or something like that. On moral subjectivism something is only wrong if YOU don't like it. It can't be wrong for a reason that's independent of your presences.

@VinceJeevar @WeAreAustinTV @philwest @AustinFC Stuver said speaking to the media “is just a part of his job” as a leader in the locker room and captain on the night. - Someone asked asked if players volunteer for post-match media or are selected. He didn’t seem to have any issue with it. From that perspective, it makes sense

Give A Shit About Nature
Give A Shit About Nature@giveashitnature·
Wolf spiders are one of the best household pest controllers in North America. And people still kill them on sight. They don't build webs. They hunt. Cockroaches, crickets, silverfish, earwigs, mosquitoes, ants, moths, and even smaller spiders. They track prey down by sight and speed, pounce, and take it out. A single wolf spider can work through dozens of insects a week. They are not aggressive toward humans. Their bite, in rare cases when they feel cornered, is comparable to a bee sting. No serious medical threat there. They would much rather run than confront anything larger than a cricket. The female carries her egg sac on her back. When the babies hatch, they ride on her until they're ready to leave. She's a mom doing pest control. If you find a wolf spider inside, the best thing you can do is nothing. Let it keep working. If it's somewhere inconvenient, slide a cup over it and a piece of paper under the cup, and walk it outside. The pest control company you'd call costs hundreds of dollars. The wolf spider works for free. Don't squish them. You should buy the next one you see a beer as a thank you.
