I've been reading a lot of Letterboxd reviews of Obsession writing my blogs on it and the line that cracks me up every time is people taking the customer service guy way too literally. There's a hilarious line where the customer service rep castigates Bear for not reading

@Teslimatttt I get they were trying to do a Venom thing with him but I really felt like his powers being the same as Homelander's (maybe because he was so obsessed with him his body subconsciously copied him) was a more interesting idea.

@bedxchem I think she's aware of everything and is forced-dissociating through it. The screaming over the phone is her internal soul/mind trying to break free/suffering because of the trauma. x.com/i/status/20587…

@zanzibarforever @poorteffy The fact that she describes it both as being a witness to everything and remembering it and popping in and out at the same time in this clip sounds a lot like dissociation to me. As if your own actions are a bad dream that you are constantly waking up from.

This was the only scene that confused me. Cus (SPOILER) when he was talking to the customer service rep why was real Nikki screaming in the background through the phone? Did he have her soul trapped or some shit.

@zanzibarforever @poorteffy The screaming is her "self" whether that be mind, soul, or both, trying to get back to the surface/suffering as a result of the trauma she's going through

@zanzibarforever @poorteffy I don't know that I think there's an entirely separate entity, so much that I think the "real" Nikki is dissociating from her body and actions as they are carried out. It's less that the wish has a mind of its own and more like it's placed a restriction on her identity.

@Tinkysenpai @poorteffy Right, I know Nikki knew what was happening to her physically and that she was doing things she wasn't in control of before this phone call, but I think the phone call itself is what told her that the One Wish Willow was the cause

@PhxntomHaunt The reason her symptoms are similar to something like BPD is that those often develop as a trauma response. If the wish being made is an allegory for SA, the radical shift in Nikki's identity is an allegory for the psychological damage that causes.

@PhxntomHaunt I agree. The wish version isn't the "real her" in the sense that she's had all her autonomy stolen and she's forced to fulfill the wish, but it is the "real her" in the sense that it is her own mind that is actively being bent to the wish's conditions.

I've muted my last Tweet about Nikki not being possessed since I keep getting attacked. But I like to think she's under a spell rather than being possessed. I think she has an alter ego that she cannot control and oftentimes, is able to regain control and say that it's not her.

@cloneposter I think everyone in the movie was trying to sabotage each other romantically, but this one is the most obvious example. I don't understand the people who think Ian was trying to help. I know negging is a thing people try but Ian would know it wouldn't work for her.

@sinobite This movie did a great job of letting you feel its influences (Evil Dead and Talk To Me felt very relevant in how the violence was handled) without me even once feeling like it was ripping anything off

@zaryaismywife One of the things the show did away with that made complete sense, but then they did nothing to capitalize on that change. Jon knows Bran is alive but doesn't even consider looking for him, just writes him back off as dead by season 7.
