The goofy little chuckle he does after making that knock knock joke, the way his demeanour instantly sharpens after Stratt addresses him as Dr, yet still unable to hide his nervousness...so many minute details I love in this scene that give a great insight into his character!

if i recall correctly the entire book is narrated by grace except for the courtroom scene. he doesn’t even have a single line of internal monologue here despite his tendency for tangential thought, insinuating that he was so entranced by stratt’s power he just forgot how to think
