@chjournalist @brandonousley It’s a testament to his talent that those duets with Roberta are his least essential work for me. His own work is far more affecting and lasting IMHO.
English

@brandonousley A troubled soul but underrated singer, songwriter. His duets with Roberta Flack heavenly classics. Still have his live album on cassette

Reportedly, Donny Hathaway was moved to tears while hearing a playback of the song's final mix.
Wakandantechsupport@SkylerB97
It's so interesting how Someday We'll All Be Free" was written to help Donny Hathaway cope with schizophrenia and became an anthem of liberation
English

@brandonousley The meaning imposed on it prior to this knowledge never made sense to me. Knowing what it’s really about really makes it resonate in a far more powerful way. It’s my absolute favorite song by anyone.

@RetroNewsNow The beginning of the sell-out. They had R&B cred with the "So Much in Love" cover they debuted with and threw it ALL away with the country/pop nonsense. It made them a lot of money but it killed their credibility and limited their shelf life tremendously.

We have a brand new Message Board on the site now! Come have a look...and maybe even stay a while:

For our 51st episode, we now focus on the very talented @mcbrainz216. He just had his first big hit. Somehow, this song featuring the incredibly hot @BoyzIIMen, didn't become huge too. Let's take a listen and talk about why it didn't quite land. youtu.be/FNe_EyL97PI?si…

@RetroNewsNow Here's a video on a song from the album with a VERY interesting history: youtu.be/Vpkfrk4OJrk

@WhatsGoodToya @DeonEstus @GeorgeMOfficial So good, right?? The chord changes are amazing. I love its EWF-ness!
English

@VinylAlbmCovers @DeonEstus @GeorgeMOfficial I LOVE this song SO much. I was so happy to find this on vinyl a few years back. Listening to the episode now.
English

This one features @DeonEstus - the ostensible third member of Wham! Let's dig into his career and the odd history of this single. Hint: this is the SECOND iteration of this single. #randb #soul #soulmusic #georgemichael @GeorgeMOfficial youtu.be/a_L3Wus2QP4

NEW VIDEO! This time, we talk about one of the greatest songwriters in history! This was intended as his mainstream comeback. It didn't quite work...but this song is a BANGER! Let's listen and talk about why it got missed: @babyface #randb #neptunes youtu.be/34lkUvLA01A

"Ribbon in the Sky" is one of the most beautiful expressions of enduring love and commitment. "Overjoyed" is equally beautiful, but what a brutal sentiment to unrequited love it is. So I'm going with the former.
eguapo 👑@thetrillgent
let’s argue…ribbon in the sky or overjoyed?
English

@garcoxgang We Can’t Be Friends by miles. The song is SOOOOO much better than the others. It’s a whole story and Deborah and RL tell it beautifully. @ShepCrawford wrote a MASTERPIECE!
English

@brandonousley CDs are going away. There really is no need for them anymore. They aren’t sexy like vinyl and it’s just a physical medium with digital 0s and 1s. We can get that in files. The expense isn’t worth it for acts to have them manufactured. I do get you on the “impersonal” thing tho.
English

Some people hold the flawed belief that the CD is an obsolote medium because of the growing trend of modern-day automobile companies manufacturing vehicles without CD players and tech companies removing disc drives from their products to accommodate streaming services.
Sto the Last.@BigSto
why do some artists hate it so much when i mention CDs? like an actual vendetta against CDs make it make sense. just like websites, ill always post about the viability of CDs because there's this false narrative that NOBODY listens to them. which is a lie.
English

@brandonousley Both of those Luther albums are so cool. Props to Paul Riser for his arrangement chops on both of those records. Luther would improve but he was never bad…and both of these albums prove how good he already was.
English

@TheMekon_Venus Honestly, not a thing. Few seem to remember but Blockbuster was the "big bad wolf" - making Erols & independent movie rental spots close left and right. They were merciless. It was the Walmart of movie rental. They got what was coming to them. They shouldn't be romanticized.
English

One of the best female singers we’ve ever known, Karen recorded a solo album that was initially shelved but finally surfaced 16 years later. Let’s talk about what happened, why it was shelved, and about this amazing song that got missed as a result:

@_nictorious Angel is incredible but I can’t leave out Sweet Love and Giving You the Best…. Even these choices were hard. When she was on, she was ON.

@RickJames Where do I begin? See…nah, never mind. Lemme just let this one go…

Happy heavenly Birthday to the king of soul and funk, #SlyStone! Rick was an avid fan, and it can be heard throughout his records.
