When rest of the world has been taking drastic fuel conservation measures such as odd-even, 4 day work weeks, school and office closures and increasing fuel prices by 20-30%, India under PM @narendramodi Ji remains an oasis of energy security, availability and affordability. Taking a further step to ease supply of commercial LPG, Government of India has decided to increase the commercial LPG allocation of states to 70%, with 20% allocation given to industries such as steel, automobile, textile and other labour intensive industries. Since its inception in 2021, the respected Global Morning Consult Surveys Report tracker has consistently rated PM Modi as the most popular leader in the world leaving behind other leaders by a wide margin. In an era of proliferating global indices, it is worth asking what truly captures public trust. In my latest article, Many Metrics, One Bias: Needed, a New Global Benchmarking Order, published in @SundayGuardian, I had highlighted the 3rd tier of the global scorecard architecture—private and independent public opinion surveys such as this one as the most credible reflection of lived reality and scorecard setting. At a time when many Western leaders face “incumbency blues”, PM Narendra Modiji’s consistently high and first in the world approval rating reflects a sustained and exceptional public mandate—anchored in charisma, public outreach, and a wider sense of popularity rooted in public perception: of a leader seen as charismatic , the foremost servant of the people- #Pradhansevak - likeable, admired, and strong. It is equally reinforced by the authority of a “great communicator”, whose ability to connect ensures that governance is both understood and trusted. These surveys also capture what conventional indices often miss: the assurance of strength alongside stability and predictability in uncertain and perilous times and the confidence inspired by a capable crisis manager and security guarantor for this nation of 1.4 billion and the largest and oldest democracy . Equally central is a visible commitment to welfare and social protection measures that reach all sections of society, with a particular emphasis on caring for those most left behind - Antodaya . It also reflects his friend of the world - Vishwa Mitra credentials . Scorecards such as these are not abstract indicators dreamt up by a few motivated , anonymous interest groups but a true reflection of lived realities, and their consistent presence through the years explains why such peoples’ surveys often diverge from conventional global indices—revealing a gap between institutional assessments feeding narrative warfare and how citizens actually experience leadership in our great and vibrant democracy .

International crude prices have gone through the roof in the last 1 month from around 70 dollars/barrel to around 122 dollars/barrel. Consequently, petrol and diesel prices for consumers have gone up all over the world. Prices have increased by around 30%-50% in South East Asian countries, 30% in North American countries, 20% in Europe and 50% in African countries. The Modi Government had two choices- either increase prices drastically for citizens of Bharat as all other nations have done or bear the brunt on its finances so that Indian citizen is insulated from international volatility. Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi Ji, in keeping with his Government’s commitment of last 4 years since the conflict in Russia-Ukraine started, decided to take a hit on its own finances again to safeguard the Indian citizen. Government has taken a huge hit on it taxation revenues to ensure very high losses of oil companies (approximately 24 Rs/litre for petrol and 30 Rs/litre for diesel) at this time of sky high international prices are reduced. At the same time, export tax has been levied as international prices of petrol and diesel have skyrocketed and any refinery exporting to foreign nations will have to pay export tax. My gratitude to Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble FM @nsitharaman Ji for this very timely, bold and visionary decision!
