As these gods failed to guide these nations, Yahweh decided to create his own nation to guide them as an example. This is where Israel originated. And the messiah Jesus was brought forth to save ALL the nations. God, through Jesus, set forth to save all of humanity, however his own people rejected him (Israel, mostly Jewish in descent). This is what led to what you see today. Since they rejected their own God and Messiah, now they are blinded to the evil they are a part of and continue in this manner. A good example of one of these "gods" leading a country the right direction after the Tower of Babel for quite a long time is China. Look at the "Shang Di" religion of China. Their ancient scriptures mirror what is said in Genesis. They even have a text that says virtually the same as it is written in the early chapters of Genesis and it is 1000 years older.
