This is a classic logical fallacy known as the Appeal to Authority. Let me share a personal experience to illustrates the Appeal to Authority fallacy. I once posted a video of bad weather at sea that went viral. An Indian captain, a Master Mariner, downloaded it and reposted it on LinkedIn. He had no actual idea what the context or situation was around the video, yet he painted a completely false, negative narrative about the situation without knowing any of the actual context. When I looked through the comment section, every single person blindly agreed with his critique just because he has been a Master Mariner for 25 years. It just goes to show that people often accept an opinion as absolute truth simply because the person propounding it is more prominent, popular, or powerful.
