Located in Red Rock Park, Pyramid Rock is composed of stone from the Jurassic & Cretaceous periods. Age of the dinosaurs. The park's scenery is the result of millions of years of water & wind erosion sculpting the landscape into the cliffs, spires, and formations seen today.

The coal miners of Chihuahuita were drawn to Gallup's booming coal industry in the early 1900s. Many Mexican miners were recruited in 1917 to break up a strike. Later, they became central to the "Gallup Coal Wars" of the 1930s and 1950s - elpalacio.org/2025/09/strike… #VisitGallup

The Red Rock Balloon Rally is held the first weekend of December. It is one of North America's largest balloon rallies, featuring over 150 balloons, mass ascensions, evening balloon glows, and Native American dancers. Admission is free, but there is a parking fee for the park

The Opera House was an important center of social life in #Gallup for many years. Weddings, theatrical performances, dances, political meetings, boxing matches & other events took place there. The first floor was originally occupied by a grand saloon and cafe. It closed in 1952.

Brickyard Bike Park | The old brick quarry located just east of downtown Gallup was converted into a bike park in 2013, equipped with free-ride trails, skills trails, dirt jumps, a kids track, pump track and a multi-use trail going around the perimeter of the 7+ acre property.

There are two separate recreation areas at Mentmore, the climbing cliffs and the western trailhead for the High Desert Trail System. Due to the remote location, there is rarely anyone at Mentmore other than locals. Dogs are welcome. visitgallup.com/blog/mentmore-… #VisitGallup #travel

Manuelito led warriors against the military's forced relocation of the Navajo to Bosque Redondo. After surrendering, he was part of a Navajo delegation that went to Washington D.C. to negotiate the 1868 treaty that allowed the Navajo to return to their homeland. #VisitGallup
