¡Viva Oxnard!

We’ve been traveling across the US talking about the Beautiful Brown People of Oxnard. The Youth/Kids tell us they want to visit Oxnard & tell their teachers they want to take a field trip here. To try the food. To meet la gente. To dance to la musica. As if it was mythical. ✊🏽🍓

What has been revealed about the often-celebrated Cesar Chavez is a reminder that we should never idolize an individual within a larger struggle, rather we need to focus on collectively strengthening the movement itself. We believe survivors of such toxic & manipulative violence.

Rita Moreno, the legendary, first Latina EGOT winner (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony), was filming at Oxnard HS & saw our Brown is Beautiful poster in a classroom. She loved it & believed that Latinx representation is very important. We believe so, too! FREE posters application open!

THANK YOU to folks who are showing out for our Gente. Remember, we can all play a role. Not everyone can be a frontliner, but we can all donate, share info, educate, record, and so on. We all play a role in humanizing our Gente to ensure this violence does not get normalized. ✊🏽

In 2020 we did something unimaginable. We collabed w/ artists & Chingon Bakery to give out/deliver over 500 conchas and ¡Viva Oxnard! coloring books. This memory will never be forgotten bc local author Dr. Gonzalez just published an academic article about it. Read it for FREE.

The recent incident at Juan Soria School is a prime example of how anti-Blackness is normalized & perpetuated in our Oxnard community. The irony of Black civil rights leaders working w/ Juan Soria to end racist practices in our Oxnard schools is not forgotten. Accountability now!

Make it make sense. In 2022, Oxnard was deemed “one of the most neighborly cities in the nation” & now according to a recent social media video that is circulating it’s deemed “worst town to live in CA.” What narrative you gonna believe? Those who know, know. Don’t fall for it.

Smh! Even in the so-called “non-profit world” the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. Shame on the Ventura County Board of Supervisors for giving 50% of art grant money to two art orgs instead of spreading the wealth to other art orgs! Sign the petition to rescind decision!
