Does anyone have any recommendations for statistics books with an emphasis on things like predictive models? I have ML book by @joshuastarmer (which is awesome) but I’d love something that goes into more details.

I have my ML picture book because I’m a professional 😂. Honestly it’s awesome. I’ve designed an ML algorithm and worked in the field before, but it never hurts to revisit the basic concepts. Thanks @joshuastarmer

@HallieRubenhold I’ve just finished season one of Bad Women, I’m on to season two and here is my new year treat. Thank you for giving justice to women through the telling of their stories.

@JTFouquier @AcademicChatter Yeah I hear you there. If it helps, moving overseas was not has hard as I thought it was going to be. If you change your mind let me know what area of bioinformatics you like and I’ll do a UK search for jobs for you. ❤️

@JTFouquier @AcademicChatter I’m a US-based PhD candidate in bioinformatics too but I’m from, and currently living in the UK. I’ll doubt I’ll ever return to working physically in the USA again for exactly the same reasons.

@BarkerLab @ctitusbrown thought you might be interested in seeing sourmash used for polyploidy subgenome differentiation
English

@SutherlandBL Thank you so much and thank you for stepping in to moderate! Also, yes you can try it out on those genomes, it’s quick and relatively painless to do. Drop me an email if you want any info on set up, parameters etc.

I had a lovely time presenting at the @BarkerLab polyploid webinar today. I absolutely love open science discussions, they foster such insightful discussions. I would encourage anyone interested in polyploidy to join the next one!
