Okay, but Claude Code is an agent harness and behind the scenes when it's "just fixing that bug" it's using loops. It does the work then checks its work... etc. If you aren't using Claude Code's finer mechanisms (creating skills and such for repeatable actions) you're only using Claude Code for its most basic surface tool. If that's how you want to work, that's fine, but this isn't exactly a flex.

I'm not a huge fan of Gimp myself, but if I need to edit photos (which is rare) it's the go-to, but there are other alternatives. Photopea and Pixlr are both online photoshop like photo/image editors that are available (and free or freemium). The user just asked what to get for their linux experience, not having enough information about what they use their machine for or what their experiences were, I gave the answers that fit MY habits, hobbies, and workflows. You are free to dislike any of them or share alternatives.

Why do you have an IDE that lints it for you and you refuse to just use the tools available. Hover over the redline or right click it, or click the red exclamation mark on the left and it will tell you exactly the issue and usually how to fix it. At any rate, HashMap not Hashmap. It would have been faster to just use your IDE.

Interesting fact: There have been studies around how policing works (ICE is policing) and generally speaking, there's a distrust in police for many reasons. Did you know that, for example, when investigating a crime, if the investigators believe you are guilty of whatever the crime is, they might ask you for an alibi and then never actually check your alibi? In-fact: If you provide an alibi they will find that suspicious. If you do not provide an alibi they will find that suspicious. Quote the police: "If you have nothing to hide, just let me search"... I have the 4th Amendment, it is my right, I am not giving up my rights on your whim. It's funny how all the people yelling "They want a police state" a few years ago are literally applauding ICE (a policing agency) doing the exact things you were yelling about. Make it make sense?

The constitution gives the power to run elections to the state. There is no need for a federal policing force to check IDs. Workers at polling places already follow their state and county laws regarding voting. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has zero things at all to do with voting. If anything, local law enforcement can easily just check to see if a person entering a polling place for the purpose of voting has a valid ID. We don't need federal government interference in our local and state elections. And yes, having federal agents at polling stations is a deterrent for some people (including people who aren't criminals).

We could further with indelible ink fot voters or fingerprints. But I wouldn't like the invasion of privacy with fingerprints.

Depends on what you are coding actually. Mac, Linux, and Windows all have the ability to use Visual Studio Code (and numerous other IDEs that you might like). The experience of coding is usually the same no matter which OS you are using. Where having a Mac is a requirement is if you're trying to build cross-platform apps including for iOS. Can't compile and test without a Mac. Otherwise, all operating systems are just user preference and all "this is better than that" are not objective truths.

By 2040, there will be no user interfaces. all software will be designed for AI agents not humans. instead of clicking "Open this", "Search customer".. an agent will simply call structured APIs: get_customer(), send_payment() Interfaces will be optional. Frontend developers will be tokens.

It is and I've managed my 26 year career in software engineering without ever using Rust. Maybe I should check it out to see if it's worth my while. Either way, Python is not a vibe coder language. It's my task automation language and has been long before AI (as we know it today) was a thing.

Unpopular opinion: Roundabouts are better than traffic lights. Yes, people occasionally use them wrong. People also run red lights, blow stop signs, and turn from the wrong lane every single day. Bad drivers aren't a roundabout problem, they're a driver problem. The difference is that roundabouts keep traffic moving instead of making everyone sit at a red light for no reason. Less idling, less fuel wasted, shorter commutes, and fewer severe crashes because traffic is moving at lower speeds. I'll take a roundabout over another unnecessary red light every time. That's kind of a weird argument, because people already misuse regular intersections with traffic lights and cause accidents every day. The existence of bad drivers doesn't make traffic lights a bad idea. Even in this video, the mistake only disrupted traffic for about a minute. A traffic light can easily make everyone sit through an entire signal cycle (or multiple cycles) even when there's little or no cross traffic. Roundabouts are designed to keep traffic moving instead of forcing everyone to stop. In most situations they reduce delays, save fuel by cutting down on idling, and get people where they're going faster. They don't prevent every accident, but they do tend to reduce the serious high-speed crashes that are much more common at traditional intersections.

This is why I detest these roundabouts. People simply do NOT know how to use them! Instead of trying to socially engineer people's compliance to these things, just admit the experiment has been a complete failure because people will NEVER understand how to use this type of traffic intersection! Are you with me? Is it time to go back to actual lights with green, yellow and red and proper intersections?

It’s not necessary. There are already tried and true algorithms that are used for trading. By the time AI gets good enough to compete with those, people will hopefully be back to normal. AI has some good uses, but using it to replace scripts that already work better than AI can is not a great move.
