Last night we held a Public Hearing on @GburgMD FY26 budget. A few highlights: 🧾No property tax increases – again!! DYK - The City has only raised taxes once in 60 years. Our new law, passed unanimously and now in effect, requires landlords to provide prospective tenants with clear information about any fees associated with their lease, helping folks avoid bait-and-switch tactics like the ones described in the FTC Lawsuit below. Honored to start a new tradition on City Council—challenge coins! These are a token of our appreciation, and a way for the Mayor & Council to say thank you to those who make our community better. Councilmember Wu, and I were introduced to this tradition during our time in military service and it’s exciting to bring it to Gaithersburg. Last night felt surreal. After our City Council meeting, where we thanked Public Works staff for recently completed pedestrian safety improvements, I headed home. Near my house, I saw police presence and learned that a tragic pedestrian fatality had occurred. Investigations are ongoing, and we await more details. This is a sad reminder of the risks pedestrians face. We will continue to look for ways to improve pedestrian safety. My thoughts are with the loved ones of the deceased. mocoshow.com/2024/10/07/wom…
