July #auswrites 18. Describe your WiP with emojis. (thanks to @Gazrj01 for this prompt)

I tend to focus on the protagonist's arc, rather than thinking in terms of themes, and it usually turns out they're the same thing 😁

This is from Animoid. I'm 63K in.
Yarni Cabott, the MC and First Mother of Yost, is an echidna/human hybrid & Casua Ogle, a cassowary/human hybrid is the Fiscal for Merchicore, one of the dreaded corporations.

@DamienLawardorn That sucks! You'll get back to it, and this hiatus will seem like a distant dream 😆

Unfortunately, I'm passing today. It's been so long since I worked on it that I don't have anything ready to pick out 😬
I'll get back to it soon! (I cried, barely holding back the flood of frustration at how 'soon' seemed ever more distant)

@ABFinlayson1 Lol, I feel seen and attacked by this title.
Seen. And. Attacked. 😳

@rayseewriter Oh, that sucks! Don't give up, yours will be the book only you could write 😄

Seeing this book in an email from Avid Reader Bookstore this morning was a bigger slap in the face to me than a rejection letter.
I have been working on an Historical Fiction story on the life of Wilhelmina "Bill" Smith and a book has just been released.

#AusWrites May 8 What have you researched for your WiPs?
Echidnas and spiders for my latest #scifi
Fun facts: Echidnas move 8 trailor loads of soil a year. They're toothless, have 15cm tongue, hind legs curve backward for better digging. Both male and female can form a pouch...

@truedialogue I should do this more often. I'm good at drawing, but often end up with a distorted sense of times and distances because I can't relate my pretty maps to reality. Even with scale lines.
English

#AusWrites Do you draw maps of your story world?
As a fantasy writer I should. I do love a map. Tried a few times myself, even with dry pasta, but I'm tragic at drawing. Ended up using where I live (we have mountains, rivers, lakes, villages). Gave me an idea of distances, times.

I research as I go, because you never know when some little element of your world building will avalanche into a major plot mechanic 😆
I'll leave some for later, the stuff I know will have minimal impact on my cause/effect threads.

May 6 #auswrites Do you research before, during, or after your first draft?
English

#Auswrites D8
Ghoul and gargoyle folklore, Blue mountains flora/fauna, fortification architecture, viruses, subterranea, cults, pre-mill logging practices, and a thousand other things that I probably didn't *need* to know. (But I needed to know!)

May 8 #auswrites What have you researched for your WiPs?
English

#Auswrites D10
All of Terry Pratchett. A handful of classics, like Dickens, Austen, Tolstoy, etc. All of PG Wodehouse (especially the Bertie books) at least five times. And I've just started rereading the epic fantasy I loved as a kid: Kate Forsyth, Robin Hobb, Sara Douglass, etc
